My husband and I don't usually do large tours of the city, preferring to explore on our own. Our B&B host suggested we take this tour on the first day we were in the city and offered to book it for us the day we arrived. I'm glad that we took her up on the offer. The tour was 90... More

This is one of the best tours I have ever been on, notwithstanding that I have toured Jerusalem, Rome, Tokyo, Washington DC, and numerous other cities throughout the world. What makes Tommy's tour so worthwhile is that he provides a reasoned but very different perspective on the causes of the Civil War from what is taught in American classrooms. The... More

We always take a walking tour when we visit a city we are not familiar with and Tommy did not disappoint. His knowledge about the history an story telling capabilities captivated my wife and I for over three hours. We felt we were locals for that brief time and came away knowing so much more about Charleston. Tommy is a... More

We chose this tour based on recommendation of friend who used Tommy on recommendation from her hotel’s concierge. We booked this for our first morning-to gain a good walking understanding of Charleston and learn what we could as quickly as possible. Tommy Dew did not disappoint. He was very quick to respond to our request for the tour, easy to... More

Tommy Dew's tour was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. We go on many walking tours as we travel and our criteria is that we'd like to learn about the history of the place, but not the book history. Tommy Dew definitely fits that bill. Our walk was easy enough through downtown Charleston and ending up by the... More

Totally enjoyed the Tommy dew's Walking tour. It is a History Tour and that is what we wanted. He makes it very easy to follow and really gives the historic tour, not just who lived where. Goes back to the beginning and how and why it evolved like it did. We went on a Sunday at 11 and at least... More

Chose this tour based on recommendation of concierge. So glad we went with Tommy Dew. Tommy was a most hospitable and informative guide. He gave a great tour and, more importantly, a history and sociology lesson from a Southern perspective...something quite lacking in textbooks of northern schools, but no less important. The two hours flew by. Thank you Tommy!

With all the available tours of Charleston available "free," walking, carriage, house tours, ghosts... we chose Tommy Dew. A native of Richmond and 16 year Charleston transplant, Tommy's tour is purely from the southern perspective. He walks you through the city explaining the historic sites with a huge dose of History. Did you know that Charleston was bombarded with cannon... More

Tommy's tour was so interesting and engaging we signed on for a second day. Tommy brings history alive and left us wanting to read more about the Revolution and the Civil Wars. Tommy was excellent in providing additional perspective to what we've read in history books. Tommy is a warm, funny, bright guide that gave us a wonderful introduction to... More

Tommy was the guy everyone recommended so we scheduled as soon as we could which happened to be our second full day; we wish we had done it the first, but we were so glad we did it early in the trip. You learn so much and Tommy is super entertaining! Great, great day!
