Have been here several times. It is a well kept cemetery and some beautiful Angels. The trees are huge and covered with moss.

This place is amazing, for a cemetery (that sounds a bit odd writing but we love visiting them to learn about history and see how old some date.) This place is well maintained and there are so many unique, old and amazing burials here. We came here to find the Hunley crew (after visiting it) and found them plus so... More

Magnolia Cemetery is a beautiful old cemetery off the beaten path but well worth a visit. In the winter century old camellia trees bloom under the meandering branches of magnificent live oak trees. Residents include many of Charleston's finest families and include confederate soldier's and sailor's graves. Enjoy the old funerary monuments but pay attention to the birds. A surprising... More

A truly southern cemetery with trees filled with Spanish Moss and headstone of every shape and sizes. The key attraction for me was the Confederate soldiers and sailors section and especially the section where the remains of the Confederate submarine H. L. Hunley's three crews are buried. If here on a weekend, ensure you checkout the nearby Warren Latch Conservative... More

Unique, historic cemetery - very old graves with lots of history. Lots of Confederate Soldier's graves, including the graves of the famous Hunley crew.

People look at us strangely when we tell them we visit old cemeteries. In our eyes, Magnolia was stunning with its ancient headstones, rusty wrought iron fencing and gates and moss hanging from live oak trees. We like to visit because even in their odd beauty, they are places of peace and respect.

Cemetery enthusiasts will likely find points of interest here, but I was really surprised at the lack of fine funerary. I was expecting something more along the line of Savannah's Bonaventure Cemetery, and there is really no comparison. Magnolia Cemetery has far less interesting features, including bleak landscaping, and is not nearly as well maintained. We stayed less than an... More

In our travels across the country, my wife and I love to visit historical sites, especially battlefields and cemeteries and ghost towns and antebellum mansions. When it comes to cemeteries, Arlington in Washington, D.C., and Hollywood in Richmond, Virginia, rate at the top of our list. But others are noteworthy because of their beautiful landscape or historical significance or the... More
