The Unitarian Church is unusual. The cemetery is kept natural and is uncut. The church is beautiful on the outside. It is not open to the public. Several people came by while we were there. The cemetery is part of the Gateway Walk. The cemetery is full of lantana and numerous flowers and bushes. The plots are not manicured because... More

I stumbled upon the Unitarian Church entirely by accident. As I strolled along King Street, I passed a set or iron gates that led to a shaded brick pathway. This path led to an old cemetery and garden that was attached to the Unitarian Church. It was like entering another world. The interior of the church is beautiful with walls... More

The experience started at one end by a pathway under the trees and plants. It winded through the cemetery and to the church.

Church is beautiful, but the real "secret" is the churchyard - filled with history of the common folks of Charlestown. Parts of it are overgrown, but the trees with the hanging moss over the grave markers are at once beautiful and sad. Many of the grave markers are so eroded as to be illegible, but the effect of the whole... More

Interesting talk by the docent. Beautiful ceilings! Visiting the attached graveyard is well worth the time.

Again, just a beautiful church and setting with its historical cemetery. Highly recommended in your tour of the surrounding neighborhoods.

One doesn't expect to have a churchyard on your "gotta-do" list of a city like Charleston, but this belongs. An intriguing respite from wandering through shops on King Street, take the alleyway from King Street into the rear churchyard. The shade alone is a nice change, particularly in the summer, but it also frames the graveyard and building in appropriate... More

This church is worth the time it will take you to tour the church and grounds. The ceiling and stained glass alone are worth the visit, but make sure that you check out the grounds, too. There are docents that will give you tours and answer any questions and speak about the history of the church. According to their website,... More

Don't miss a Saturday when they are giving tours in the church. Docents are present to give you history of the church. Take some time to walk through the cemetery as its as unique as the church itself. You may even capture a ghost.
