Enchanting historic Charleston comes alive on entertaining and informative...

Enchanting historic Charleston comes alive on entertaining and informative walking tours with 7th-generation Charleston native Michael Trouche. Discover stunning architecture, glorious gardens, Civil and Revolutionary War sites, cobblestone streets, wrought iron gates, legendary graveyards, and the local flavor of the fabled “Holy City” that no one knows better than Michael, who grew up in the famous "South of Broad" area, and has written two popular books on Charleston, where his family has lived for more than 215 years. Michael won numerous prestigious awards as host of the acclaimed "Carolina Camera" television program for 20 years on the local Charleston CBS affiliate, and has charmed tour guests for 10 years with his unparalleled knowledge of South Carolina's history, culture, plants and animals, as well as colorful insights, locations and anecdotes that only a lifelong Charleston native would truly know.

Michael is a gem! spending two hours with him is hardly enough, as he provides the richest experience imaginable. Not only does he seem to know everything there is to know about Charleston, his sprinkling of personal anecdotes and experiences are priceless.

My husband and I recently went on this tour with Michael while we were in Charleston for our 29th anniversary. He did a fantastic job! Michael was so engaging and remembered everyone's name that was on the tour! As a Charleston native, he had so many interesting stories to tell! Even though it rained during our tour, we were so... Our family of 8, ranging from 2 to 58 years old, very much enjoyed this tour of Charleston. We selected Michael's tour over others because of the excellent ratings and his personal background and experience as a Charleston historian, author, and former resident of this wonderful city. It was this blend of personal experience and historical knowledge that kept us... More

This is a fairly fast paced walking tour. Michael is expert at engaging with everyone on his tour. He tries to keep track of names, which makes this group tour feel personal. Book in advance by emailing him from the website. Cash only payment. $20 is a bargain, +tip if you choose.

What can you say about someone with almost 1800 5* reviews that has not been said? I have a hearing deficit so was very pleased with Michael's speaking - loud and clear. Learned a lot about Charleston and learned that ain't the moon on the flag -LOL Great tour - good guy - good value - do it!!

A tour guide is an entertainer, and the tour his stage. At least, that's the conclusion I reached after taking Michael's "Charleston Footprints Tour", and his tour is the Charleston-walking-tour scene's version of Broadway. Michael is a trained actor who grew up in Charleston and has clearly spent a lot of time honing his tour, so not only is he... More

If I only had two hours to spare in Charleston, I would take this tour. At $20 it is hands down worth every penny. Michael is an excellent guide. The tour took us to places that no carriage ride goes...into a few selected churches, a theater and narrow alleys. Michael kept us moving at a comfortable pace and always stopped... More

We decided to join Michael's tour on the strength of his ratings and we were very pleased we did! Michael is extremely knowledgeable, gregarious and a great story teller. The two hours flew by and Michael maintained a brisk but eminently reasonable pace to the tour. He is also very good at keeping everyone on the shaded side of the... More

There is no doubt that this tour guide is extremely knowledgable and furnished our comprehensive tour with lots of information. However, having been on many tours throughout the world I have come to believe that the very best guides do more than learn people's names, as Michael does well but organises tours that allow people to mix, talk as they... I thank the reviewer for her comments, but I disagree that I was in any way smug or disparaging in response to her statement on the tour. I was explaining to the group the design of the historic piazza and the angled pitch of its floor as a means of allowing rain water to run off. The reviewer spoke up... More
