Morris Island Lighthouse is located on Morris Island on the southern side of the entrance to Charleston Harbor in South Carolina, north of the city of Folly Beach. Named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, it is unusual because it now stands several hundred feet offshore. When constructed in 1876, the light was approximately 1,200 feet from... We (me, husband and 8yo daughter) took a private boat charter with Island Hopper Charters to Morris Island. Our guide recommended a low tide visit. You can't get to the lighthouse anymore because the land around it has washed away due to the jetties they built decades ago. We saw a tone of beautiful seashells and sand dollars. It was... More

Light house is a fun sight, BUT the real interest is the history of Morris Island. This is the site of one of the last battles of the civil war, fought after Lee surrendered. Yes the Civil war began and pretty much ended in Charleston. Nominally the battle at Morris Is was the basis for the movie Glory (D Washington,... More

We were surprised to see this lighthouse completely surrounded by the ocean. It's completely inaccessible, but still pretty to see, all alone out there. Folly Beach, where this is located near, is one of our favorite attractions and we took a long walk to see this lighthouse while we were there.

Take a trip with COA to get there, pick shells and relax on a private beach. I can't believe how beautiful it is!

When this light house was built it was on solid ground. Now it's out in the ocean on a sand bar. It's a good day trip for a family and a piece of southern history.

We are always looking to find Lighthouses so when personnel on the Charleston Water Taxi told Us about this one, we knew we had an afternoon mission. It is easy to locate at the end of James Island, past Folly Beach. Parking is limited (on the street) and there is a short walk out to the viewing area. This is... More

I took a marsh tour and our final stop was the lighthouse. We all jumped ship and started walking towards the lighthouse. The captain gave us 30 minutes to explore the beach and take photos of the lighthouse. You can get somewhat close but the sea separates you from the lighthouse. I did this activity solo but it would something... More
