On one of our walks on King street we walked into this wonderful unique surprise. Near 194 King street you will find the gates to this Gateway walk. A graveyard with graves from hundreds of years ago to as recent as 2015. Loved it.

There are several reasons to do this walk. One is for the history. The churches, cemeteries, and buildings along the route are part of the history of Charleston. The Circular Congregational Church graveyard is the city's oldest burial grounds with monuments dating from 1695. Two...More

I loved this alley. It's an off the tourist path attraction in the shade with no cars. There are graves but it feels more like a secret garden. Worth a stroll.

So serene and peaceful. A little spooky but really historic and lovely. The grounds are not kept and that contributes to not being able to read many of the tombstones but it also contributes to the atmosphere.

Cool and spooky walk through a beautiful old graveyard. An easy detour off the sidewalks into a quiet spot.

This old graveyard walk is short but peaceful and quiet in the middle of the day! Fascinating old grave stones and overgrown shrubbery.

We enjoyed the beautiful flora and fauna, the interesting and varied trees and plants, well arranged and cared for. Reading the tombstones brought some history to mind, and some sadness over people's early deaths or family losses.

Great "photo op" at the end of this walkway to an old graveyard. A MUST quick-visit if you're walking up King Street and if have a penchant for old graveyards. It's easy to miss this entrance though (across from the library).

This is a hidden path through downtown Charleston. It starts on Archdale Street through the cemetery of the Uniterian Church. There is a map online showing the exact path which winds through several cemeteries. The back side of the cemetery comes out on King Street...More
