The exhibits range from art collections (I loved the metal displays!), planetarium and space, prehistoric animals, early settlers (Native Americans), Antebellum SC to more modern times. I wanted to visit the museum to learn more about SC's culture and peoples, which I did in interestingly displayed exhibits. I actually spent 4 hours exploring!

The new exhibit on sea monsters of the prehistoric area is great for both adults and kids. The story is told about a baby female aquatic dinosaur. We follow here form birth through various near death experiences until her eventual death from old age. She is identified by a shark tooth left in her fin millions of years after her... More

My husband and I wanted to visit a planetarium and this was the place we found. They had optional shows and we watched the "from he earth to the universe show". It was very cool and informative. We also wandered around the various floors of the museum. We loved the space exhibits and hand on activities. There is plenty of... More

I accompanied a group of 60 students and we were all amazed. The museum is so rich and full of SC History; especially the 4th floor exhibits. And you must see the Observatory Deck; absolutely amazing.

Lots of artifacts and opportunities to learn. Painlessly. Walk through the many exhibits and you will come away knowing it was a great way to spend the day.

In our travels we try to visit all of the state capitols and history museums. After our very interesting tour of the Capitol, we headed over to the state museum, which is actually a conglomeration of several types of museum. We visited the history section and were disappointed. The exhibits are quite dated - most of them seem not to... More

My son was fascinated by so many exhibits! He really loved the solar exhibition, the old cars, the dinosaur and the new ancient marine exhibit. His favorite exhibition though, was the trains! He could probably have sat in front of that for hours!!
