We were not aware there were free tours of the State House. We arrived at 2:30pm and took a tour. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended if you go to the State capital.

Take a stroll around the capital, see the history in the statues and monuments, there's a lot to read in just a walk around the block. Worth the stop!

I really liked seeing the stars on the side of the building where cannon ball impacted during the Civil War. The building was truly beautiful. Missed the gift shop though as it was closed on Confederate Memorial Day.

Beautiful building that captures a lot of beauty and history of our great state of South Carolina. Nice gift shop with many items with our popular palmetto tree state flag.

The Capitol offered tours but, as a civil war buff, the details about the Civil War were lacking, save for the cannon ball shots on the building. Columbia, despite its historic role in the civil war, is sorely lacking on memorials of the war...it's almost...More

The State house should be of great interest to kids but ONLY if it is in session. Then it is great to see governing in action and the term lobbying takes on a new meaning when seen live. Make your plans accordingly.
