In fact Columbia, despite its historic role in the Civil War, lacks a cohesive interpretation of its role. We just happened across the cannon ball shots on the Capitol. Just happened to stay at a hotel on the site where Sherman repeatedly stayed. Yet, there...More

I'm disappointed in the negative reviews. This local landmark, located in the historic Earlewood neighborhood, is just off of North Main St, just minutes away from downtown. You have to park somewhere along the street, which is not hard to do, and it will take...More

This is a nice monument to show where the surrender took place during the Civil War. However, there is no parking or any other info on site about it. And not really in the best of neighborhoods.

while not a major attraction in anyway, it is a neat little marker for history buffs. The marker marks the spot where the mayor of Columbia surrendered the city to General Shermans forces-thus saving any further destruction. easy to find, one can street park at...More
