We were unsure what to expect, but were delighted with relaxing atmosphere and self-guided tour. This was not your traditional museum, it was an outdoor exploratory walking tour. Our kids enjoyed going at their own pace. We visited with children ages 11 through 8months. Definitely needed a stroller or wearable carrier for the infant.

´Tis a grand day. We highly recommend Hilton Head Island Coastal Discovery Museum. This property is very similar to Palm Beaches Nature Center at MacArthur State Park. We visit The Coastal Discovery Museum six times per year, and recommend The Coastal Discovery Museum to folks of all ages. The gift shop may have something to please all. The Museum’s trails,... We spent about an hour chasing our kids around this park. Beautiful trees and boardwalks. Well kept with a variety of things to see

We enjoyed our visit here. Definitely worth a 1-2 hour stay. The displays were interesting and educated you about the local life in the past through current times. It is nicely maintained and there are nice grounds to walk around the museum too. It truly helped to entertain us for a few hours on a cool and rainy day!

There was more to this place than I expected! We took some great pictures along the nature trail, checked out the butterfly sanctuary (though the butterflies were hibernating in their chrysalis now), and the carnivorous plants. And the best part is that it is free, though they happily accept donations. The museum closes at 4:30, and the outside park closes... More

If you want to see and learn about early Hilton Head History, this is the place to go. Plus there is no charge. There are plenty of signs if you do not want to go on a tour, or use the phone app for a self guided tour. There is plenty to see so give yourself at least two hours.... More

The guide was very knowledgeable about the area history and very enthusiastic about its importance, which really drew us into his talk. Its still winter so much of the gardening features were not at their peak and rather difficult to appreciate. It was still interesting to see real cotton and indigo plants and beautiful specimens of long needle pine and... More

You should visit this place. The walk through the serene grounds, and the historic interpretive information along the way are top notch. The main building houses an amazing display of works from local artists, and the gift shop is a gem.

Great activity to do with kids. There are displays and plants with descriptions on placards. They are indoor and outdoor activities, all free
