This was a new thing for us. Looks like they are just getting underway. They have quite a few "information boards" and a few things laid out to show "where & what size" the housing structures were at the time of the Civil War. We...More

You like the beach, but not the crowds? This is the beach for you, which is never crowded because of limited parking close by.

This peaceful location in the historic Mitchelville area of Hilton Head Island has educational displays and re-creations of life as a freedman in post-Civil War Mitchelville. While it appears that the site is still being developed further as...More

A very tranquil place to visit to learn quite a bit about the freed slaves in the area after the Civil War and learn about how they built a fairly large well functioning thriving organised community which included schools, shops, homes, churches etc..

Something different to see as far as an ocean beach goes. There is grass in the water, washed up oyster shells.....a different type stretch of beach to explore.

This beach is off the beaten path making it quite serene and peaceful. Beautiful views, white sandy beach, calm waters, a lot of shells...all you can ask for in a beach.

A great place to view and relax. Go and stay awhile. You won't be disappointed. Much to see there. Our guide from the Disney Resort told us many things about the area.
