After traveling the Black hills from Gillette, we ended the day in Spearfish. Our visit to the heritage museum was not on our original plan but suggested by WY welcome center. Although not a rodeo fan, I got a lot out if the rodeo section....More

Having visited the Bill Cody museum in Cody, Wyoming, I was hesitant to stop here, but my wife insisted. Boy, was I ever wrong, I think I learned more here about the wild west than at the other spot. I think the difference was that...More

This museum has everything you need to know about cowboys - what they wore and rode, etc. Also a lot on rodeos. My favorite area was the old wagons: chuckwagon, sheep wagon, stagecoach, hearse, etc. all authentic old West.

Found this museum by googling things to see in Spearfish. Kind of out of the way and up on a hill with a gravel driveway, but an exceptional museum of the area and it's history. Very well maintained and exhibits are very informative and complete....More

It's new, large, educational and reasonably priced. It has sections on cowboys, Tom Selleck, movies, agriculture, history, Tom Selleck, cattle, guns, transportation in the old times and the inevitable jackalope. Oh, and did I mention Tom Selleck? To make sure you understand what a longhorn...More

Building and grounds very nice. Workers very welcoming and friendly. Several small rooms to visit. Self guided. Each room done nicely. Lots of saddles and some really cool old tools. Took about an hour. Overpriced, but nice local museum.
