I was in town for the landmark 78th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and I had some time to kill and wanted some respite from the heat. Despite the rally, it was busy, but not crowded. I'm guessing during the other 51 weeks a year it's pretty quiet.

The collection features mostly vintage motorcycles including Aerials, Hendersons, Indians, Vincents, Hondas, Excelsiors and of course some Harleys. It also gives an overview of how Sturgis and motorcycles became so entwined.

I think it was worth the $10 adult admission. For motorcyclists it deserves four stars.

Located right on Main Street in downtown Sturgis. Admission is $10/adult, $15 for 2 adults and discounts for seniors. You will learn about the history of the Sturgis motorcycle rally and see a great collection of vintage motorcycles: Harley’s, Indians, Vincents, etc. There is a section on racing bikes and persons in the motorcycle hall of fame. Not a big museum but there are two floors and an elevator. Small gift shop and friendly staff.

We are not bikers, but my wife and I enjoyed the museum. If you’re staying in Deadwood, Sturgis is just 25 minutes away.
There must be over 100 bikes to look at. There’s an explanation card next to each bike, explaining its significance.
If you’re in Sturgis, you must go there

Of course, upon entry, you will find goodies to buy, lots of Sturgis/bike shirts. And then - WOW - look at these bikes. Some dated back to the 1800's. Helping to make the bikes more interesting, there were informational placards for each one. If you are "into" motorcycles, don't miss this!

The building is small and hard to maneuver with a wheelchair. They have an elevator that gets you to the lower level. But they definitely show their pride in explaining the history of Sturgis. If you have a little time stop by and see their diplays.
