Wonderful to walk down by the river. Clean, well-manicured, incredibly introduction to this fun city. Bring your walking shoes and your camera, there are a ton of wonderful views on both sides of the river. Highly recommend.

The first day we walked from the Battery Row area towards Chickamauga Dam for almost 3 miles. The second day we started at Chickamauga Dam and walked almost 3 miles towards Battery Row. They were both nice walks, but the trail from the dam towards downtown Chattanooga was the best. When we started at the dam, there were Ospreys circling above us and Gray Herons landing close by. There were beautiful large trees on the river banks. On both days, when we got close to 2.5 miles walked, the trail pulled away from the river and went through some industrial areas. The Riverwalk Parkway is also nice in downtown Chattanooga near the Tennessee Aquarium. People were biking, walking and running on the mostly flat, paved trail. It was well worth the trip!

Love the Riverwalk. Miles of paved running pathways starting in downtown and extending to Chickamauga Dam. Magnificent.

Beautiful views but if you go as a family and you have little toddlers that dont know better it can get scary with them trying to get close to the bank. Not many railings keeping them from the river and the walking trail is just far enough that the shorter ones have a hard time seeing.

I've been to many riverwalks in the USA and this one is just average. But if it's a nice day, it's something free to do. But I preferred walking around in the city.

What a wonderful asset the Riverwalk is to the town of Chattanooga. Our senior hiking group walked 3 miles on the far end of it to the Chickamauga Dam. The trail hugs the Tennessee River the entire way and it was a great walk on a cool, beautiful fall morning. I would have loved to have had time to walk other sections. Maybe next time.

Lookaway Trail is actually off the Chickmauga, but part of the waterfront trail system…and a real surprise! We saw the trail from the Tennessee Valley train ride, googled the location from the train, then went back to it. Beautiful!

We stayed at a hotel on the river and walked both ways. Such a lovely walk with riverviews while getting to see where locals live and exercise. A walk to the Aquarium was easy.

This walk goes for 16 miles along the river. Don't miss going over the old bridge! I only did part of it but I am definitely going back!

Miles of walking trails along the river, plenty of benches and trash cans. Peaceful area, bicycles and families enjoying the day.

How old are your kids? I am looking for a bike rental for my 7 year old. Do they have smaller bike rental options?

Is this a safe place to walk around a night as well? Is it a nature area or stores and outdoor restaurants?

Yes, we feel very safe about walking around the riverwalk and to the walking bridge that goes over the river. There are some restaurants close to the riverwalk, but the majority we have found are on the main streets that the buses go on. All kinds of restaurants and some are our favorites. I would suggest searching thru Google or Tripadvisor. Some are fancy, others not so much. We love to explore the area. Whether walking or taking the free bus, I hope this helps. On the other end of the downtown area close to the Choo Choo: This area has been booming with restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc.

We did Hampton Inn one year, also Double Tree, also Hilton Garden Inn, Residence Inn, the big one with the orange windows is the Westin Inn now I think. Also Holiday and Inn and Suites Downtown (Express is probably too far),

Good morning. Does the Riverwalk run uphill in either direction. My wife and I sure like to start our bike rides going uphill so that we can go downhill for the ride back. Thanks.

They are parked all over the place. You can't miss them...bright green. We saw them at the end of the bridge by the ice cream shop.

Dogs can be on leashes. You would be expected to pick up dog waste and dispose of it, of course.
