Although I was pleased to see, and appreciate, the historical monuments and explanations, I visited Winstead Hill Park on a near-daily basis March-November 2016 for walking purposes. The walking loop to the north of the monuments takes you into a pretty meadow and copses of cedar trees, with small streams, wildflowers, changing foliage and wildlife (birds, deer, rare snake, etc.).... No trip to Franklin would be complete without a visit to this park. read the signs and learn about how the Generals made the fatal errors that lost the battle for the south.

This place is being worked on and added to so it is always a good place to go first when doing the Battle of Franklin. The information monuments and exhibits certainly help your tour of this area of Civil War history.

We enjoyed out hike along the trail and seeing the memorials and graves. I read about the battle before visiting. I am glad I did because there weren't many informational signs to let vistors know what they were looking at, but it is my understanding that the battleground is being improved upon all the time. I suggest that visitors read... More

Worth a short drive to overlook the town. Only a few minutes but gives you an idea of what the battle was like.. Try it and you will like it

Very interesting place to go and stand where John Bell Hood and the Confederate Soldiers looked out over Franklin at the Union Soldiers just before the Battle of Franklin in November of 1864. They also have stone monuments with the different states as well as memorials of the 6 Confederate Generals who died at Franklin. Highly recommend a stop there.

We drove to the site and I walked up the hill. It was interesting after visiting other attractions but I wouldn't go to far out of your way.

This is a very important historical site for the civil war and American history. A conflict that began to change in the outcome of the war. The site is very well kept, very informative, and close to other sites that are historically important. Not to mention my family history. Thanks for taking care of this historical site.

Winstead Hill is a 61 acre Civil War Battlefield. It sits at the very end of town at 4023 Columbia Ave. on the right just as you're leaving Franklin. There are Historic Plaques placed along the trail explaining the battle. There are a number of graves on the hill with an observatory at the top. The observatory has a beautiful... More
