I've lived in this community for years & never knew where Winstead Hill was until last month. A nondescript right off Columbia Pike (going south) after the Columbia/Mack Hatcher intersection, you can park and walk up the winding hill to a shelter from which you can view Downtown Franklin. The last high hill south of Franklin gave the Confederate Army... More

Took our grandsons (12 and 16 from NYC). Visiting Winstead Hill before taking the walking tour helped them see the field that was marched and fought before getting to the Carter House and the Cotton Gin. Lovely place to walk the dog ON LEASH.

After you've visited Carnton, the Carter House and the Lotz House and have learned all about the Battle of Franklin, stop at Winstead hill and imagine how it might have looked 150+ years ago. It's a very peaceful place to think about the sacrifices Union and Confederate soldiers made...and wonder why...

Cute little park easy to get to from our hotel (the Drury) in Franklin. Nice walking path, very pretty area. Path was less than one mile round-trip. There's also a few monuments and memorials and a history of the area as it relates to the Civil War. Enjoyable and worth visiting. Easy place to visit with young kids. Allow about... More

Although I was pleased to see, and appreciate, the historical monuments and explanations, I visited Winstead Hill Park on a near-daily basis March-November 2016 for walking purposes. The walking loop to the north of the monuments takes you into a pretty meadow and copses of cedar trees, with small streams, wildflowers, changing foliage and wildlife (birds, deer, rare snake, etc.).... No trip to Franklin would be complete without a visit to this park. read the signs and learn about how the Generals made the fatal errors that lost the battle for the south.

This place is being worked on and added to so it is always a good place to go first when doing the Battle of Franklin. The information monuments and exhibits certainly help your tour of this area of Civil War history.

We enjoyed out hike along the trail and seeing the memorials and graves. I read about the battle before visiting. I am glad I did because there weren't many informational signs to let vistors know what they were looking at, but it is my understanding that the battleground is being improved upon all the time. I suggest that visitors read... More
