What travellers are saying
- binflynn1Irvinestown, UK667 contributionsWe mostly had heard about this on the island and to get there we opted for a tour bus ( safari tours ) highly recommend, which was âŹ20 for this we got to see a few parts of the island and this was the most spectacular part Iâd been looking forward too .
The day we went was warm blue skyâs and hot very hot so if you get of the boat with your thinking of hiring a bike think again unless youâve done the Tour de France youâll find it challenging , when you get to the entrance it costs âŹ5 to get in before a long uphill walk over uneven ground, again it would be dangerous if it had been raining as the sones would be wet and slippery, but once youâve made it to the top the fort is mind blowing with beautiful views across the seas and the high cliffs make it even more execrating, do be careful , wind , slippery surfaces and cliffs donât mix well so use your insinuative, and bring a drink there are toilets at the start and a coffee shop serving food and drinks but as everyone comes back to wait on their buses or collect their bikes it can be busy and there will be a wait , you can buy the Aran sweaters here too although the day we picked it was a t-shirt you needed , but worth the whole experience indeedWritten 2 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Donald OTempe, AZ2 contributionsWe took the ferry boat to Inis Mor from about 30mins west of Galway. The Captain of our boat has a really cool Poetry book! We were there in early February, cold, but dry, planned to electric bike but with cold weather took a van tour, definitely worth it. Pub for lunch was Great food and beer! Fort was a short semi easy hike, be careful at edge of cliff, small shelf of rock down about 15-20ft so if you fall you could still be rescued! Great scenery , House of 7 churches neat to see. Saw some seals! Enjoy!Written 23 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- binflynn1Irvinestown, UK667 contributionsThis is one of the most beautiful beaches Iâve ever stopped at , the colour of the sea was amazing like between green and blue with white fine sand and hardly any people on it , it was so warm the day I visited but I didnât dip the toes in although I should have after a long walk on the island, so come here itâs hard not to miss as itâs on the main road back to the dock weâre you get the boat to the main land ,tip bring swimming trunks because if itâs a good day youâll regret missing a swim in this lovely beach .Written 2 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jim WSindelfingen, Germany2,930 contributionsWhen visiting Inishmore, this is one of the stops people visit. Without a guide, you might not know what you are looking at unless you have done some research beforehand. My wife and I were on a tour so we had a guide who explained what we were seeing. Tempull Breccain (Church of Brecan), commonly called the Seven Churches of Aran, is a complex of churches and other buildings dedicated to the 5th-century Saint Brecan, once a popular destination for pilgrims. Seven Churches is one of the biggest monastic foundations and centres of pilgrimage along the west coast of Ireland. Brecan is believed to have come here in the earliest period from Kilbrecan near Quin in County Clare. Tradition on the island has it that his foundation rivalled St Endaâs foundation in the east of the island. Indeed the two saints are held to have eventually agreed to divide the island between them. Although termed âthe seven churches,â there are in fact only two churches with a number of domestic buildings. The title seven is possibly an allusion to the pilgrimage circuit of Rome which incorporated seven churches. This is still an active graveyard, but there are strict rules on who can be buried here. The guide explained it, but I do not recall all the details. Of course, one had to be born here; however, that were many other limitations. Suffice it to say, there are only a dozen or so inhabitants left on the island who qualify. They are all in their 80s.Written 20 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Simon GrayDublin, Ireland13 contributionsOthers say Dun Eochla isn't as good as other ancient forts on Inishmore. This may be true, but it's certainly not as crowded as, say, Dun Aonghasa. Getting to Dun Eochla involves a steep 400m climb and a walk through paddocks and over walls - but it is a rewarding walk for the views and the solitude that awaits.Written 20 June 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - clownisLos Angeles42 contributionsThis is one of the easier spots to find on Inishmore. It's not far from the main town (especially by bike). The photos on this review don't all match the site, so do a bit of research to be sure you are heading to the correct place.
The ascent to some of the places on the island is tricky, but this one you can clearly see from the road. Lovely views from the site (we were there on a beautiful summer day). Do beware of ticks. We visited while on a 10k jog and did pick up two ticks on this adventure.

- AlexanderDJackson, NJ4,615 contributionsThis is a small ruined church, parts of which may date back to the Eighth Century. It is a short stroll from the main road and worth a few minutes to explore. There was a wonderful marker of some kind out front which fascinated me. This is worth a stop as you wander the island.Written 8 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- kennedyjohn797London, UK10 contributionsFive bikes out on the roads and trails on Inismore - what a brilliant way to see the sights! The bikes are sturdy but well kept and the brakes and gears all worked fine - a bonus considering the punishing weather over the seasons!Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
