Ceardlann/Spiddal Craft & Design Studios is a small complex of craft workshops situated right on the coast of Galway Bay, with beautiful views of the Burren and the Aran Islands.Visitors get a chance to see some of Ireland's finest craft items being made right in front of their eyes. The crafts include Handweaving, Jewellery and Stained Glass making, Screenprinting, and various forms of art, Traditional Basket Weaving and a Photographic Studio. Stopped Herron Spiddle Barna Road on a cold grey windy day. The craft shops were open even thought it was Sunday and looked closed. We spent a lovely couple of hours looking and buying local crafts then went into a cafe shop on site which served lovely homemade foods, chutneys etc

We went on a weekday in November so not necessarily peak season but the shops were open and weren't really worth stopping at. The jewelry seemed cheap and over priced but certainly had some unique options. The other shops were tourist traps with cheap T shirts and mass produced crap claiming to be authentic but could be found at any... More

Well Meghan K. Were you really in the Spiddal Craft Village? I am the owner / manager of the 'Cheap T-Shirt Shop'. I'm glad you think our t-shirts are 'cheap'. Many people think they are a bit too expensive, but then again they are all unique designs in the Irish (Gaelic) language, screen-printed by hand on the premises and certainly... More

We visited in November so it was very quiet. I could imagine it being very busy in the warmer months. Lovely collection of shops with a wide range of goods. Great for unique presents. Nice spot to meander and then a coffee/tea

Small but interesting group of crafters on coast outside of Galway city. Was nice to walk and see many unique items mixed with some touristy generic items. Would return if in area.

Check out Ciaran Hogan's basket shop and workshop. Ciaran's baskets, crafted from a handed down tradition, are works of art aswell as function, a lovely blend of natural colours and exquisite workmanship. And if you've time why not try it yourself, as I did, on one of the basketmaking weekends. We were a small class, got lots of attention and... More

I would absolutely recommend visiting this little craft village to anyone in the Galway area looking for souvenirs and presents to take home. It is the perfect antidote to the usual cheesy souvenir shops full of Guinness and leprechauns! There is something for everyone, but I really want to praise Andrea Rossi's shop/studio so highly. Her shop absolutely enchanted us!... More

It was such a privilege to visit Ciaran's studio. The lay out, the quality and the selection of gifts is wonderful with the Celtic theme running right through the studio. He is gracious and more than generous. He invited us to his work room explaining very delicately for us novices the where with all in basket making. His products are... More

I did Ciarán Hogan's 2-day basket-making course last weekend (Sat & Sun, 9.30 a.m - 5.30 + p.m.) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were 7 of us in the class, all materials were supplied, tools were provided and we each made 2 baskets. Ciarán is a gifted teacher. He paced the lesson very well, demonstrated each step very clearly... More

I always wanted to do this weekend course, great fun, full of skill and very relaxing. The course is in a very nice area with lots to see and do. The café in the craft village has great food also. We made a bread basket and another larger basket. Ciarán would spot a mistake a mile away and would get... More
