Fascinating little museum, surprisingly large as it covers three floors of the history of Dartmoor and it's way of life. Tucked away in a Victorian courtyard off West Street, (rear entrance has parking) there are lots of activities for children (especially in the holidays) and the friendly volunteer staff are also covering Tourist Information, so anything you need to find,... This delightful museum is housed in an old Mill and contains a diverse and comprehensive collection of artifacts. It is well worth visiting whatever your age.

Not a huge building but has 3 floors containing a wide range of exhibits covering the ages. I found it really interesting. Also impressive were the number of areas to encourage children to get involved. For me the ground floor held most interest with a number of old tools, some of which looked like they'd be fairly lethal in the... More

Went for a visit to this small museum after visiting the Information Centre, and thought it was well worth a visit. It gave such a terrific insight into the history of the local area and life as it was. Well done to all the volunteers who work so hard to. Are this place such a success. Keep up the good... More

Didn't even know this place existed until we were looking for something dumb different to day one day. The place is not extensive but there is plenty of information available on the history of the prison past and present. Well worth a visit if interested In prisons and situated right opposite the current prison adds to the authenticity

Thank you for the review, however, I believe the review refers to the Dartmoor Prison Museum at Princetown rather than the Museum of Dartmoor Life which is situated in Okehampton. More

I was able to ride my mini mobility scooter around this museum which has a lift. There were exhibits from the ancient to more recent. I found it very interesting. There is also a small shop selling local craft items, maps etc.

This museum was very very good, well laid out and very informative, from Stone age living to the present and very detailed.Spread over three floors,it took about 45 to 60 min to see everything. Will definitely be doing a return visit.

Parking nearby was a little difficult to find, but going through the arch into the courtyard is like stepping back in time. We enjoyed it, but be aware it is a little museum, not a destination in itself but nice for a visit if you are in the area, which we were. I was impressed by their additional exhibits for... More
