Visited with my family. My daughter loves Les Miserables so has alot of questions about prisons! Very interesting place, especially after finding out that prisoners volunteer there. We all chatted to a prisoner for over an hour about the museum, the work he'd done there and prison life. Amazing experience for all of us. We learnt alot. Much appreciated. :-)

Popped in here on a rainy day and was pleasantly surprised. Lots and lots of history of Dartmoor prison from past to present. With plenty to take in and read perfect for a rainy day. Staff were very friendly and extremely reasonably priced attraction. Would recommend for all.

Visited by chance and found some unexpected information, particularly about the origins of the prison. Items made by prisoners were also fascinating.

The museum is improving and they are adding more to it. A lot of written facts which would take you ages to read through but some amazing historical artefacts, like toothpicks made from animal bones by prisoners of war from 200 years ago. The history is both sad and compelling. My daughter was fascinated by the A frame and cat... More

If your tired of walking on the Moors and want a little break Dartmoor prison could be just the thing. They have several exhibits worth seeing and reading about and many hand crafted weapons some of which look pretty scary. The gift shop has several things made by some of the prisoners and it was fun to pick up a... More

Finally went to the museum after many trips through Princetown without stopping. An excellent visitor attraction with fascinating exhibits and stories to tell. I certainly learnt a lot during our short visit. Highly recommended

Very reasonable entry fee, easy parking and a fascinating museum. The curator was most informative, the historical development and use of the prison very well documented, and the mock up of the two cells, past and especially present, should be a warning to all: "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime!" I certainly wouldn't want any son... More

We came here out of curiosity and left knowing so much about the history of the prison, excellent display. We went on the tour of the French and USA burial grounds which was very interesting and the guide was very knowledgable which help to visualise what life was like in the 19th century. Well worth a visit...

Very friendly staff and very interesting experience! Got to meet one of the prisoners now who also works in the museum who showed us around and explained a bit more about the things on show and life in the prison today! Was very interesting to hear about the meals and crimes within the prison itself and how it works! Would... More
