The Centre provides information on fossils, fossil hunting and the local coastal and marine wildlife. Facilities at the centre include interactive computers, hands on displays, marine tanks and a video microscope, all of which can help you to discover more about our stretch of the coastline. You will always find a helpful warden or volunteer who can help you identify your fossil finds. The Centre also has disabled access. Our Jurassic Theatre shows a short film on 'The Jurassic Coast and Finding fossils at Charmouth' (adults £1, children 50p). We also have a shop stocked with books for all levels, including some of our own publications, toys and souvenirs. Throughout the year we run guided fossil hunting walks and rockpooling walks along the local coastline. The Centre also has an extensive education programme. For information about the activities we have to offer to school groups please see our Primary Schools and Secondary Schools sections.

My wife and two young children visited in early January and I wanted to compliment the couple who run the centre on their warm welcome, enthusiasm, knowledge and customer service. The really brought to life my my children and myself the world of fossilling on Charmouth and went to very effort to welcome us and encourage us.

We have been to Charmouth beach twice and found fossils on both occasions. The beach is a pebble beach so shoes are recommended. Make sure to take a little hammer to break open the rocks. We also took a garden tool like a miny pick axe (from the pound shop) which came in really handy. The kids had a great... More

An interesting diversion next to the car park but really just a fossil shop that sells a few books and trinkets.

Plenty of natural history and human history to enjoy. Respect to Mary Anning, pioneer palaeontologist in a sexist age.

We went for a walk up the beach looking for fossils and despite having no idea what we were doing we found several. The heritage centre has a lot of books and niknaks for sale. There was no where available to buy food or drink which was a shame except for an overpriced coffee machine, although we did visit well... More

We looked in on Charmouth Heritage Coast during a visit to Charmouth. Its free admission and there are some really interesting displays featuring local rocks and fossils. The interior is beautifully presented as is the small retail area, which sells a range of books and items suitable for children. Most of all the staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.... More

The Heritage Centre is full of Local history, managed by friendly and informative staff. Great for all the family. If this is your first visit then it is a great introduction to the area, its fossil history, where to look for fossils on the beach. Downstairs is the Charmouth Fossil Shop. So if you have been lucky enough to find... More

This must be the 5th or 6th time i've visited and finally got round to a review! Heritage Centre is always very interesting to walk around and i did the fossil walk for the first time having wanted to do it before but it being fully booked! Found the talk at the beginning interesting and the guides directed us towards... More

The beach is great for fossil hunting. You can hire a hamer and gogles in the fossil shop. The staff upstairs in the center were extremely friendly and helpful and there is a decent cafe with home made cakes too.

Excellent little fossil museum and worth popping into if you've been along the beach or are visiting the fossil shop. It's free and there are a few activities for children to do at a very small cost. There are plenty of fossils to see and touch and a few to buy if you didn't find any of your own along... More
