Preston Mill was a neat view back into history. Understanding the process of how they dried and milled the grain was interesting. We arrived about 30 min before closing. There was no other tourists around so the guide gave us an abbreviated tour. The cultural background also gave more flavor to the history about the mill. The guide also pointed... More

This historic working mill sits in the wonderful countryside of East Lothian. I visited on a bike ride with a friend. We enjoyed a tour that took 30 minutes with very knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. Lots of history and innovation to be seen in a setting that reminds me of the sets from a Harry Potter movie. Well worth a... More

Thanks to our wonderfully enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide Danny - this was one of the best NTS sites we have visited. A simple mill? you might be forgiven for thinking there's not much to learn. On the contrary, we learned about trade, water power, the social and religious life, the mechanics of producing grain and a whole host more. Definitely... More

This is an adorable little place and so quirky! We had a tour guide all to ourselves as we were on the last tour and we learnt loads. Definitely recommend if you're passing through, or if you're a member of the national trust or if like us you like Outlander filming locations as this is said to be the mill... More

A lovely peaceful spot by the River Tyne. The mill itself looks as though it had grown piece by piece over the years. The whole place was brought to life by the young guide who took great trouble to answer any questions we had and especially took the trouble to keep two small children entertained. There were mice to find... More

A magical little place with wonderful wildlife all around. Well worth a visit. The staff couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. The area around the mill is a lovely place to walk your dog too.

Used in Outlander. The thing is that their website said they would be closed on the weekend so I almost didn’t go. But I figured I could try and see it from the road. Luckily the guy in charge was there and said the website was wrong. He showed me photos of Outlander filming, talked a lot about it (had... More

Visiting Preston Mill was a most pleasant surprise, much more quaint than we expected. It was definitely worth the drive, wether you are an Outlander fan or not.
