Hugely enjoyable golf, splendid clubhouse and warm welcome await at Crail Golfing Society. Founded in 1786 and the seventh oldest golf club in the world, it celebrated its 225th anniversary in 2011. The club has two courses: Balcomie Links, a unique, traditional links laid out by Old Tom Morris, and Craighead Links, a challenging links experience designed by 2009 Golf Course Architect of the Year Gil Hanse.

Balcomie, a great links course with outstanding views.

A beautiful day with a light wind breeze and you were able to concentrate on the golf holes and the scenery, particularly those running along the coastline. Despite the signage, I found the second hole confusing. Number ten was probably the weakest hole on the course - all of the remaining were second to none. The course was not rated... More

Highly recommend. Great views, great staff, great course. We played while staying in St. Andrews. It's an easy drive and affordable.

Had a great round of golf on Balcomie, only £25. Very windy but course played great. Shot a gross 75 and play off 12 so was delighted. Even managed to par "Hells hole by driving straight over the sea and back onto the fairway. Will be back!!

I played Craighead this year and the old course, Balcomie links last year. Each course has outstanding views and both are a great test for all levels of golfers. They are located just outside of the village of Crail which is a wonderful old fishing village and harbour. Green fees are modest and worth every penny.

We came to Scotland to play in the Craws Nest Tassie at Carnoustie. Our first stop before the tournament was the Crail. This course is what golf used to be. Short course with spectacular ocean views from many if not all holes. If you want to play at a course as it was designed and how they played in the... More

Booked this course through the golf course on-line--I believe you can book it a little cheaper on-line through a booking tee time company. We paid $80 pounds each to play--walking--as there are only carts for the disabled I believe--but they do rent push carts for a few pounds. The pro shop is very small---the people behind the desk were very... More

Played the older course mainly because of history. Thoroughly enjoyed the course. Views were outstanding. Course was in great condition and a very good golfing experience.

I've played most of the Big Name courses in and near St. Andrews, but of all the ones I enjoy most are Balcomie and Craighead. They are beautiful, well-maintained, challenging, and an overall satisfying golf experience. Pro Shop service is lovely, as are the views overlooking the backside of Balcomie from the Clubhouse. Don't forget: If you play more than... More

My husband and I played Crail, Balcomie Course on July 18th. We found the course in beautiful shape and enjoyed it immensely. To have the opportunity to play with two friendly members was perhaps the highlight of our Scotland golf trip. They were jovial and welcoming. The views are spectacular. The pro shop has a great selection and the clubhouse... More
