This fountain ⛲️ stands in a central part of this busy historical village , and basically constitutes a roundabout, so be careful of traffic if you’re taking a closer look. It was commissioned by a man with the unique name of Onesiphorus Tyndall Bruce , and the architect chosen for this Victorian Gothic monument was Alexander Roos. In 1856 it was finally unveiled, unfortunately after the passing of it’s benefactor, so his wife Margaret made it a memorial to him. It’s octagonal in shape with crests and 4 ( strangely ) pastel - pink painted lion rampart statues. The fountain ⛲️ has become quite famous via it’s appearance in series one of the popular historical time-travelling drama “Outlander” - where the ghost of Jamie Fraser stands beside it on a dark wet night , gazing up at a window watching his soulmate Claire brush her hair, unaware of his presence. This location was used to substitute 1940s Inverness in the Netflix series.

A much seen fountain and square i imagine since the success of Outlander. (seen in series 1 and possibly more?) In itself this is a very ornate design anyway, and with the historic buildings and statues about hands make it more so. Photo opportunities from many different angles here, when traffic allows. Bare in mind that it is the centre of a roundabout.

My wife and I were on a whirlwind trip across England, Scotland Wales, and while we were in Scotland we hit every Outlander site imaginable!
So of course we just had to travel to Falkland to visit the hotel and fountain where we first see the 'ghost' of Jamie as he spies on Claire in her hotel window.
Check out the Town House Deli & Bakery, we stopped in for a warm treat. Next door is the Covenanter Hotel, which was the Inn where Claire and Frank stayed.
The town of Falkland is very quiet and quaint and has some lovely sites and shops.
Definitely try to spend an hour or two wandering the streets, stop in for a pint and take in the quiet beauty of this beautiful little town.

Until I saw this and did a little research, I just assumed that fountain had something to do with RObert the Bruce. But no. The fountain was donated to the town by Tyndall Bruce, who was the local Laird. The fountain is a Neo-Gothic tower and is still functioning. The tower is surmounted around a base decorated with four lions at the corners, each carrying shields which I’m guessing were the coat of arms of Tyndall Bruce and the coat of arms of Falkland, which is a stag resting under a tree.

Walking through the town we were surprised to see Outlander fans taking photos . At this time of year it shows there are still a lot of tourists about .The tv series must of been a great boost to the area .The fountain itself is in good repair and quite photogenic

After Castle Leoch, then Lallybroch, the next logical place was the famous fountain scene in Falkland on our Scotland Tour! My wife had the best time figuring out the filming locations. I have to say it was fun to stand where Jamie’s ghost appeared. The Fife takes some time to get to and the earlier in the AM you can hit this, the better chance you have of a parking spot. You have to feel for the poor folks of this quaint little place. I don’t think they will ever have peace after this show concludes! Be sure to grab a coffee from Campbell’s Coffee House right next to the fountain!

Wee Falkland village is chock-full of history, great eats, tempting shops, and sublime scenery.

The Bruce fountain in the middle of the town roundabout is definitely one of these: actively in use, it's laden with flowers and detailed stone carving. It's unusual to see such vibrant color on a central structure like this. It fits the vibe of the place.

Just before leaving our second visit here, mist was forming in the hills just behind the village. Captivating, indeed.

Outlander TV show watchers: yes, this is the fountain used in filming. ;)

The fountain sits in the middle of Falkland and is lovely to photograph however as it is an Outlander spot you have to avoid the Rabbies tour buses and the earnest outlander fans. Get there early or later in the day is best

Falkland is a small town just north of A92 near Glenrothes UK, about 20 miles southwest of St Andrews.

Outlander TV series fans will recognize this as the village that stood in for Inverness in episode 1 when Claire and Frank were spending their 2nd honeymoon after the war. You will recognize the place where Jamie Fraser’s ghost stood next to the Bruce Fountain and looked up at Claire in the hotel.

I must admit that was the sole reason that we visited this location. For any Outlander fan, it is worth a side trip.
