For a tiny village, it's quite quaint!!! To see the canal, some of the shops, especially Iceberg Glass, and believe it or not.... the gas station has a great affordable gift shop!!! You can then have lunch overlooking Loch Ness! I strongly recommend having lunch at "The Boathouse". It's a bit of a walk down a trail, but it's definitely... More

If you want to see the beginning of the famous Loch Ness, you must stop in Fort Augustus. It's one small village, but has so much to offer. You can have a nice lunch in one of the cafes or just sit in the quay of Loch Ness, it's your choice. But especially in winter time it can be windy... More

Great week in Fort Augustus. Nice village with plenty of walks around. Some nice local shops, and access to cruises on Loch Ness.

A cold February day probably wasn't the ideal time to go on a boat trip on Loch Ness but the crew were great, witty and welcoming, an hour trip was enough to learn all about the loch and have a coffee or a dram. Then we walked up to look at the locks of the Caledonian canal before heading home... More

Lovely small village, still has everything you need. Such a beautiful place right by loch Ness, go canoeing on the Caledonian canal, amazing walks all around, perfect place to start exploring the highlands! My favourite thing to do was to drive up the hill on the south side of the loch, until you reach a viewing point, then take a... More

Visited here as we were staying in the area for a week in January. We were in the area for walking. There is a couple of good walks nearby including along the River Oich and a bit more of a hilly walk at Torr Dhuin. Both provide beautiful bits of scenery and are walkable by most. They can however get... More

I stayed with my daughter and her partner and 6 of my grandchildren at a Finnish style wooden house called Wildwood. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay their over the Christmas period. The location is surrounded by forests of fir trees, with mountain streams nearby. Perfect getaway.
