Came here because of the rain. This is a small museum without many major masterpieces. Description of the art was well written for each piece of painting. Certainly a smaller museum for a city this size.

The current special exhibition, A Feast for the Eyes: 200 Years of American Still-Life Painting from the Hevrdejs Collection is well-done and interesting. We didn't have time to see much of the permanent collection. The grounds are nice and there's a coffee shop cafe.

This isn't a very large museum. I was able to go through all of the exhibits, and even after pausing to read about every piece, I was in and out in only 3 hours. Many of the pieces are from artists originating from the area, so there's a sense of local appeal. There are also a couple of halls dedicated... More

I was stunned at the breadth of the collections at this wonderful fine art museum. Topnotch contemporary exhibitions as well.

There is a good showing of the Masters in Art here and worth the trip to see. Interesting building, too!

"The Brooks" has art of various times, so everyone can find something of interest. The Carroll Cloar paintings especially interested us. On the top floor there is a wonderful room where children can become part of paintings by donning costumes, posing in front of backdrops, and commenting on the works of art they have seen.

Brooks is a smallish average regional art museum. It appears they are making an effort to please elementary school children which is laudable but don’t expect art that will challenge adult big city museum regulars. Folk art, cowboy art , regional art is prized which I assume are a hit with local donors.

I have been going here my whole life but they recently redid a lot and it's beautiful. I love the permanent collection and the ever changing exhibits are usually wonderful. The outdoor exhibit is great too and I'm glad it's bringing more people for the museum.

Before my visit to Memphis, I found out that Brooks museum of art have painting created by Dutch, Italian painters of 15/16 Century. I was intrigued to see it. Unfortunately for us we came 45 minutes before museum was closing doors. We still had time to visit 3 rooms with collection of Dutch, Italian painters. Small but awesome collection. My... More

This was such a great collection of art. I was so surprised by such a variation in the collection. I also got to see the Red Grooms exhibit. WOW! There is a little something for everyone, and I LOVED it!
