Sun Studio - The place where an 18 year old Elvis Presley recorded his first song.

It’s well-known in the music industry as "The Birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll" and the most famous recording studio in the world. Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers.

Today, Sun Studio still serves as a recording studio in the evenings while hosting public tours during the daytime hours.

Maybe it was the person who narrated our tour, but our visit to the Sun Studio was very informative and more entertaining, in my opinion, than our visit to Graceland.

Sun Studio was really fun! We didn't leave early enough to make it through the weekend crowds. The staff is energetic and helpful. It gets really really crowed in there when there's larger groups about to tour with you. You end up working your way into the crowd until your assigned time. More like shoulder to shoulder... I'd suggest to... More

A great tour to take you through a history of the early rock and roll days. A very enthusiastic guide makes sure the history of the studio comes to life and takes you through the many great artists who recorded there. A highlight was our son in law (after establishing his credentials) who has a small recording studio being allowed... More

Although small the Sun studio visit and tour is brilliant, the main room and cafe is only souvenirs and a few snacks , no meals but great coffee for a dollar!! Souvenirs are reasonable priced , t shirt $20. Great memorabilia on walls , the tour is up a flight of stairs , you head into a room with loads... More

This tour was highly recommended to us and it didn't disappoint. For such a small space, it's rich in history - especially if you are a music lover. Our guide - Lana - was funny, knowledgeable and completely charming. All in all, a great experience!

This was a great little tour. The guy who showed us around had a really enthusiastic attitude and made the whole story come alive. It was well illustrated by samples of original recordings from the great era of rock n roll. To think that all this happened in a small studio with relatively primitive equipment is amazing. A very enjoyable... More

The tour is 40 minutes long and you get to see lots of memorabilia as well as the actual recording studio. Really brought to life by the guide. A tour not to be missed whilst in Memphis

A must see if you go to Memphis. Parking area is tight, so we parked on the street behind Sun Studios. Because I watched the Sun Records series on television, it was awesome to see the actual studio and to see where it all began....basically, the birth of rock and roll!! The tour guide was a delightful young lady. She... More

Put on your blue suede shoes, walk right down Beale Street for 15-20 mins past empty lots, turn left, cross the road and then you arrive. Alternatively take the free Sun Studio bus from downtown and get ready to rock! Pay a small entrance charge, enjoy a $1 coffee, experience a sense of collective expectation and then an excellent 45... More
