The Metal Museum in Memphis, Tennessee is the only Museum of its kind in the United Sates. The Museum grounds consist of 3 and a half acres of land directly over looking the Mississippi River just south of downtown Memphis. On the grounds you will find a sculpture garden, a fully functioning blacksmith shop and foundry, a library holding our permanent collection, and our main Museum which houses rotating exhibitions of emerging and established metalsmiths worldwide. The Metal Museum is the only institution in the United States devoted exclusively to the advancement of the art and craft of fine metal work. This is achieved through exhibitions, collections, conservation, restoration and consulting services, classes, internship and apprenticeship opportunities, and artist residencies. The value of the Metal Museum extends well beyond its exhibitions and facilities recognizing and promoting the careers of metalsmiths.

Our first time at the Metal Museum -- there was something for everybody in our family! Beautiful, intriguing location on the bank of the Mississippi River, next door to an abandoned military barracks. The grounds are beautifully well-kept, with gardens and old trees that give...More

Exhibitions of unique work, exceptionally crafted, in a series of attractive buildings on a beautiful waterfront site. Working forge and casting area ... this place was part museum and part active studios. Really fascinating.

We are visited multiple museums worldwide and unfortunately were not very impressed by this one. The special exhibits in the main portion are phenomenal and the entrance gates themselves are unique but otherwise not a lot great to comment about here. Really wanted to like...More

We went here not knowing too much about it, it’s on a mothballed Army Reserve station right off the Mississippi River, small collections of metal art work that are unique and to be able to see different artists works is a plus. Take a walk...More

This was a small but cute museum, worth a stop by if you are in to metal works or metal art, not very big. Worth a drive by just to see the front gates no two roses are the same and some of them where...More

A few of the pieces were almost certainly wood or part-wood, but the rest were in a huge variety of styles of metal. Other reviews cover this place well. So I'll finish by adding to the chorus saying "you've gotta visit!".

Yes, we do have picnic tables on the grounds. I would recommend calling our staff before hand to make sure they are not being occupied for an event. You may reach us at (901) 774-6380 anytime between Tues. - Sat., 10am - 5pm... More
