Historically interesting. I love the architecture of the memorials - strolling around gives a sense of history from the civil war to present. Did not do the audio tour as office closed on Sunday.

The Elmwood Cemetary has a very colorful history. There are many famous people buried there and that includes doctors, lawyers, scholars and even Madams! The audio tour was spot on. You rent a CD disk at the office for $10 and it guides you around...More

Took the auto tour for $10. Cd was easy to follow, along with the map. Took about an hour. Even if not interested in history... will find this interesting. Very well done!

Best cemetery to visit in Memphis. Beautiful monuments. Take the audio tour- I have never taken the guided tour but understand it's great. They even have a gift shop!!

What an unusual and interesting place! So much history and beautiful sculpture as well. Great fun for history buffs but even our precocious 10 year old was entertained. Definitely worth a few hours time to explore. They have done pretty cool events that sell out...More

Enjoyed the walking tour of the cemetery. People buried there were chosen and a story was told about their life. The only problem with our walk was that it was 93 degrees out and not a lot of shade. Wear good walking shoes.

If you go on any tours, you’ll hear mention of the Church family, the first black millionaire in Memphis, as well as other prominent families. You will see their family tombs here. Lovely upright monuments as well as some very old ones from the 1800’s.

Didn't think I would be interested in going to a cemetary but this one has so much history. You see tombstones from the early 1800. People who were rich and public officials. A must see. Take some scratch paper and chalk so you can do...More

The driving tour was $10 which included a map and the use of a CD. The grounds were beautiful. The cemetery is also an arboretum. There were 63 points of information and we all learned quite a bit about Memphis history. Topics included the devastation...More

Really enjoyed the faded old tombstones next to new ones. Kinda gives us perspective of what happens after we're gone. Great history here. Lotsa heroes and villains. Spend the $10 and get the cd for the driving tour. Never officially segregated but it was. Never...More

The cemetery is in South Memphis, just South of downtown in an undesirable area for those who are unsure which way to go. My advice is to contact a tour company or your hotel concierge to recommend local transportation. We... More
