Loads of waymarked and connecting trails through beautiful woodland. Trees within the forest include native oak, ash, beech and hazel of the original ancient forest and imported conifers.

This is a real hidden gem. We visited on a hot Saturday in June and literally had the place to ourselves. We didn't see a single other person. We used the Esgair Fwyog car park and did the 3.8 mile walk. It was wonderful to go somewhere that we could not hear any evidence or people and the modern world. Some of the views were wonderful on the walk.
A couple of small criticisms. The walk followed a forest trail and there was not really any opportunity to take other paths and explore the forest. Also in one area all the trees had been chopped down so it was very exposed (to the sun) and not as attractive as other part of the walk.

Consisting of well signposted / wayward marked forestry tracks ( maps available on the Crychan Forest Association web site) it provides an ideal all family cycle and walking opportunity. After completing a couple of routes on easy forestry fire tracks I took the opportunity to wander off the marked routes ( probably not recommended by the powers in be) and followed tracks made by MTB bikes during their organised events and was pleasantly surprised be the adventure they provided. I stress these are NOT prepared tracks and as such caution is advised- but good fun never the less.

I visit Crychan regularly for a spot of trail running and love it every time. Free parking, a selection routes to take (two of which are way-marked or you can just 'freestyle' once you've gotten to know the place like me), beautiful scenery, fantastic views once you're higher up and a wonderful sense of the wilderness mean this place is well worth pulling off the A40 for. Great for hikers, dog walkers, mountain-bikers, horse riders, runners, etc. Highly recommended!

travelling from llandovery to chynhordy, then onto the epynt and the crychan forest area, fabulous views ,some narrow single tracked roads so be care full, but the scenery is breathtaking when you get up on high ground and look down on the valleys and the forestry.make sure you have a full tank of fuel, water, food, and snacks, because there are no facilities on the Epynt mountain or in Crychan forestry that i know of, last fuel stop is Llandovery,Llanwrtyd,Brecon,Sennybridge, when you leave the main roads there is nothing!!!. only views, animals, and occasional fellow travellers!!!.

Great walk, well signposted, fabulous scenery and views. Dog loved it more than we did - and we were well impressed. Being an overcast day at the end of January we had the added bonus of having the place to ourselves !!!!

Ok, not as big as say, Alaska but more than you're going to see in a day. Miles and miles of walks or horse rides, whatever floats your boat really. There are many different access points, do your research in advance and you can explore it in sections. Different areas have different terrains, flora and fauna. And loads of picnic sites around the fringe but don't go lighting those barbecues, this is a forest.

Free parking and excellent walking on well-maintained paths. Some up and don but nothing steep or strenuous. Try the 2.2 mile blue trail,

The forest is large with various access points. We used the entrance near the village of Cynghordy. There is parking and a picnic area - so one does not have to walk far! The parking area could do with some bins as some dog owners do not take their dog-mess away with them.
