A vey nice waterfall walk in a rural remote location. Served by 2 official Bannau Brycheiniog national park car parks that can fill up quickly on weekends and school holidays.
Here are some important points to note:
There is a lot of walking involved! It’s a significant 5 mile hike! You cannot park close to the waterfalls , you must walk for at least half an hour from any of the car parks to the first waterfall. It is not suitable for mobility impaired people. Take water with you!
Parking is pay and display, payment by card only. It costs £6 and £7 for vans, the profit goes to the national park.
However on busy days farmers open their fields and will take cash only!
There are no bins anywhere you must take your litter home.
No swimming is allowed in the river despite what you have been told or seen on YouTube. BBQ and fires are also not allowed.
Expect the 4 waterfalls walk to take 3-4 hours.
You won’t get a mobile phone signal in the area.
There are national park rangers at both car parks -they
enhanced the visit, and are absolutely fantastic who are very knowledgeable and helpful and can give all the advice and directions you need, plus info on the wider area, where the pubs and villages are etc.
Buy a map for only £1 and you won’t get lost.
The Cwm Porth car park has a small shop open every day between 8-4.
Both car parks have toilets.
At busy periods the trails are swamped with people, who have no idea how to behave in the countryside.
The waterfall’s themselves are stunning, I ended the trail at Sgwd y Eira, (the one you can walk behind) however in hindsight it would have been better to start there and come back past the other three. Majority of the trails are good underfoot but challenging in places.

Stunning place and definitely worth seeing if you’re in the area. I’ve wanted to visit for ages and I’m so glad we went. Beyond beautiful and worth the walk.

There are two car parks, card only, £6 and they fill up fast. No where else local to park properly. We parked at Cwm Porth, toilets are handy. Buying a map for £1 was great, especially knowing the money goes back to the park.

No bins on the way around so be prepared to take your litter home with you. It was VERY upsetting to see how many people clearly had room in their bags for crisps/drinks/sandwiches/wet wipes etc while they served a purpose…but once packets/bottles were empty, apparently they don’t have space to carry them anymore. Disgusting.

Several parts of the walk are tough going if you’re not a keen walker/hiker. Lots of steep steps and slippy bits but manageable if you take it slow. It’s all pretty rugged and natural as it should be. Just take your time if you’re not confident.

Shame about all the other people there. It’s been plastered all over social media so every man and their badly behaved dog was there. Go mid week when the kids are back at school though and it’s probably much better. Queueing to look at nature felt weird.

Overall the walk was a good day out. We arrived at 11, parking was a nightmare as the 2 carparks were full and over flows were closed due to the area having alot of rain. We ended up parking a mile away. The walk took us 5 hours in total and that was including us stopping for lunch. I didn't find the maps on route that helpful. It wasn't a loop round, we had to walk back the same way we came. Also, now I have walked it, I know the second waterfall is accessible from the walk down to fall 3. The steps down to the falls are very muddy and slippery! I would advise appropriate footwear and be prepared to get wet under fall 4.

Visited Four Waterfalls today and went to all four waterfalls. We started with the one at point 35 which has 170 steps down to the waterfall but it’s worth every step and the burn walking back up afterwards as you can go behind the waterfall.

We then went to the other three waterfalls which are also magnificent.

I would strongly recommend getting there early as the crowds were building by lunch.

Amazing walk including 4 varied waterfalls, well signed posted and wardens / information point at beginning of Gwaun Hepste Car park, including caravan coffee/tea shop and toilets (although porta loos). All day parking for just a fiver.
The walk itself although it was July, the paths up and down to the waterfalls were still wet and slippery and quite challenging i.e steep and long, the circular path if you avoid going down to the waterfalls (but what's the point in that) is quite easy to navigate and suitable for all, with several benches and picnic spots.
The waterfalls are amazing with the chance to walk behind one and take pictures or get soaked.
It's advertised as about 3 1/2 to 4 hour walk, covering 5 1/2 miles, it took us about 2 hrs 40 mins at a steady pace.

Stopped here on the way to our accommodation which was on the other side of Brecon and I’m so glad we did! This is a beautiful walk and well signposted. Hubby and I are reasonably fit but the steep up hills made us stop to catch breath but there are plenty of benches to rest on along the way. The terrain is mixed with mud, slippery, wet slate and stones. Would recommend walking shoes / boots but saw others in trainers. Strava measured the route as between 9 and 10km with an elevation of about 300m. It took us 3.5 hours which was a leisurely pace as we stopped a few times for drinks, snacks and to sip our toes in the water.

Parking was readily available (we arrived about 10am on a Monday), with clean portaloo toilets at the start of the walk. Carpark ticket was £5 and was card only.

Beautiful walk along several waterfalls. Good trails. You obviously have to descend to reach the waterfalls. These trails can be a bit slippery. So make sure you have good shoes. We were practically alone and only encountered a handful of other hikers. Saw many birds and even a deer. The waterfalls are very beautiful.
Would definitely recommend this walk. Make sure you take plenty of time for it. It says on the internet that you can walk it in about 2.5 hours. In reality it will take you at least 3 to 3.5 hours.

Beautiful walk, defo wear some comfy footwear and have a change of clothes if you go in the rain/muddy weather. 6.15k took us to 2 waterfalls around 2 hours. 170 down to the water fall you can walk behind - I suggest counting them as you walk back up, makes it easier to climb.

Quite an easy walk for all levels. It has been raining hard before that and the water levels were higher. There was also mud on some parts of the walk but not a problem.
The view on top of the hill is beautiful, especially an hour or two before sunset.

Absolutely gorgeous place but NOT an easy walk.. Lovely path for about 20 minutes after that omg all down hill haha.. 3 / 4 steep hills to walk back up on the way back, uneven steps to the first waterfall all down hill again, skipped 2 waterfalls as they were also down a steep hill, lovely straight walk to the last waterfall the one you can walk behind Absolutely spectacular view however very deep steps to get down, there all down hill again lol 😆 I don't know why I thought it would be easy.. My partner is ex army and even he struggled. Take lots of water, good pair of walking boots. I was a little saddened by the colour of the water or I would have went for a dip but it isn't swim safe. Lovely place however, but very very uneven slippery, steep. People taking babies and young children on there backs really scared me, the rocks are so uneven and slippery it isn't safe.
