Completed in 1290, this is a fine example of a concentric circle, with outer walls serving as a line of defense around a series of inner walls and the main living quarters.

Interesting historic presentation followed by the visit to the actual castle which is in a quite good condition. Beware climbing the top tower as it is hundreds (it seemed) of steps up a winding circular stone stair, it is not for the faint hearted!

You can walk around the perimeter of this castle as well as inside. The views from the top are well worth the climb, although it is a winding stone staircase. We stopped off in the cafe for a warm up where we had coffee and...More

Harlech castle is very picturesque and worth a visit as was the town, we found quaint shops and cafes to make a few purchases and have lunch before moving on to Barmouth, another enjoyable day spent with our friends

Visited with my husband and two huskys. We visit many castles around Britain and this is one of the best. It is mostly still intact and you can climb up to top. Not good for people with walking difficulties and can get windy at top

I half-remembered visiting this castle as a teenager but was amazed how much I had forgotten when we went back this summer. The new entry complex is bright and welcoming, with a very pleasant cafe. Staff are all cheerful and very helpful. It is slightly...More

Great trip out to the castle and were fortunate enough to watch a dragon parade whilst there. Interesting information about the history of the castle dotted around the grounds.

Very well presented and stunning to look at from afar impressive close up but a little disappointing that the interior has little left to see - not the fault of anyone except time and lack of care in years past it is just that the...More

Part-way through a round at Royal St David's golf club is the 12th hole and I'd say that's from where there is the best view of Harlech Castle. Forget paying to get into the castle and be pestered by people in kagouls with irritating little...More

Harlech train station is very close to the castle but you do have to walk up a very steep hill! Shouldn't take longer than 10-15 minutes and you can get a delicious ice cream at the top :)

My dog loved it only allowed in the grounds and not on the walls etc. The cafe has outdoor seats with lovely views. Lots of cadw castles allow dogs hope this helps. Enjoy x
