Home of the author, Ellis Wynne, remembered largely because of 'Visions of the Sleeping Bard', a Welsh masterpiece. More than two- thirds of the external stone walls belong to a house built towards the end of the Elizabethan period. It is believed that parts of the house dates from 1500 which suggests that an earlier construction occupied this site. However, the house has stood the test of time and it is here to be admired.

Restricted opening hours, 350 metre walk from car park, but well worth the effort. Historic house with lots of stairs and levels. Stand-in guide, but it was still fascinating tour. Will return again. Ask to see fold down bed with ropes, hence the expression sleep tight!

This house is so different to many other heritage houses visited. The structure and history of the house is presented by Catrin Glyn in a most enthusiastic and informative way. Her personality shines through which makes your visit very enjoyable. Don't expect a furnished house although there are a few items of the period, the interest here is very much... More

Y Lasynys Fawr was recommended to us by a local cafe owner in Harlech, and it turned out that we were staying at a holiday cottage across the road from it. The lady running the property was friendly and enthusiastic, showing us around the house and providing lots of interesting facts about the poet Ellis Wynne, how the house has... More
