This location was next to my hotel. I was quite surprised - it was not on my to do list, but I woke up earlier than expected and I decided to see the area before checking out. Well worth it! It's pretty - I definitely wish I spent more time here.

I've been visiting the Maroondah Dam for years with school groups and they all love it. The wall is a rock foundation concrete gravity dam with an uncontrolled rock chute spillway across the Watts River. The principal purpose of the dam and its reservoir is to supply potable water for Greater Metropolitan Melbourne. Constructed in the 1920's by the Melbourne... More

Visited recently before lunching in Healesville, a good walk/climb to the top of and along the dam. Some interesting story boards about the history and construction of the dam and reservoir. Interesting to note that it takes 2 full reservoirs of water each year just to flush the toilets of Melbourne!

Very run down park, fenced off areas, old toilets. Most of the BBQs didn't work. Waited for 20 minutes for one that never got above about 60degrees. Left mid cooking and drove 8km up the road to a beautiful well kept park - Fernshaw picnic area. Much better, BBQs worked, new toilets. Downsides were close to road and car park... More

Visited this park early morning and was very disappointed to see so much litter amongst the native vegetation and beautiful bird life. The view from the reservoir wall is lovely. There was recent storm damage and understandable that some clean up is ongoing but a regular sweep of the park to collect the litter, mainly alcohol cans, would go a... More

This is a beautiful place to come for a walk. We also all get together and have BBQs here with family. Unfortunately when the big storms came through in October a lot of the big old trees fell down. While on holidays a few weeks ago we went there to let the kids play in the creek but couldnt get... More

My partner and I came here the other day and went for a little walk to see the dam and we loved all the trees and how the area is really leafy green :)

Large park with loads of walks. Historic area with lots of interesting features. Great for families and dogs are welcome. Well maintained and the views from the dam walls are spectacular.

Originally planned to walk Badger Weir but upon arriving found the walk closed due to recent storm damage. Drive to Maroondah and got some great camera shots on top of the dam but all the surrounding walks were also closed which was disappointing. Make sure you check before driving out here that the walks are open.

This park is below the dam wall. When we visited, we found a little water that trickles out down a tiny stream through the centre of the park, though I understand that sometimes a lot of water comes down the spillway if the dam is over-full. We visited this park for a picnic lunch and enjoyed the big old shady... More
