A spring spectacular! The National Rhododendron Gardens are host to brilliantly coloured blooms of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, cherries and daffodils. Seasonal changes ensure the gardens are a delight all year around. When not in bloom, you can still soak in the beauty of rich bark textures, seed capsules, foliage shapes and beautiful fragrance as you stroll through the grounds. While many visitors take their time and enjoy all of the constantly changing vistas of the gardens, others prefer to take shorter walks into specific areas. Walking the entire garden is a round trip of approximately 5km, and includes some steeper grades. Magnificent views overlook Silvan Reservoir, the Yarra Valey, Warburton Ranges and Mt Baw Baw. The National Rhododendron Gardens are open 10.00am to 5.00pm daily (last entry 4.30pm) except Christmas Day. Entrance to the gardens is free. The park is located 500 metres from the Olinda township along the Olinda - Monbulk Road. Turn into The Georgian Road, the entrance is 50 metres on the right. During the busy spring period, parking on weekends is limited. There is additional parking available at both the Olinda Recreation Reserve on the corner of The Georgian Road and Olinda-Monbulk Road, and the former Olinda Golf Course site on the Olinda-Monbulk Road. Both these sites are within a two minute walk of the main entrance.

My 99-year old mother enjoyed the walk with her walker. There are many seats along the way and places for a picnic. It is all very beautiful and the air is fresh and fragrant. Entry is free and there is a delightful gift shop at the entrance. This was a family visit with older people.

Take a picnic lunch and a thermos of hot drink (or a nice red) and just take your time to explore this national treasure. The gardens are beautifully maintained... do breathe in the wonderful mountain air and relax.

2 hours is not enough. Make sure you allow more time to see the whole area and appreciate the surroundings. Best to go earlier in summer or late spring to see all the flowers in bloom. Can't wait to go back!

Entrance to this magnificent garden is free, and open all year round! The sealed walkways are well laid out with varying gradients amidst a variety of plants and trees. The landscape changes on every visit. This summer, there were luscious blue hydrangeas and multi-coloured lilies. In early spring, cherry blossoms, magnolias, daffodils, rhododendrons and azaleas galore! Now looking forward to... More

We were very surprised at the sheer size of the gardens, we walked for hours. The walkays were well made and easy to navigate, the wildlife abundant and the flowers stunning. There were many photo opportunities and areas to stop and just sit back , taking in the lovely scenery. A wonderful way to spend the afternoon, escaping the hustle... More

Wonderful place to spend a morning or afternoon (enough lawn and beautiful surrounds for a picnic) and entry is free. December/January is busy time, but autumn is stunning times also due to the deciduous trees shedding their leaves and spring brings the blossoms and other flowers to delight. A very peaceful and tranquil place to relax and saunter and enjoy.... More

This was just stunning to walk around such lovely gardens with my wife and teenage daughter. We had a great time. Saw a very cute wallaby that didn't hop away and a lovely duck family and it's ducklings as well as all the amazing gardens. Best of all, it's free!!!

These gardens are maintained by "Parks Victoria" and are in pristine condition year round. They are open to the public year round, with free admission. Well maintained gardens with stunning views. To see all of the garden it takes a few visits and can be a bit strenuous if you push yourself as it is VERY hilly and as such... More
