Passed buy it many times but finally stopped. Earth works fort that protected Nashville during the civil war. Recently they removed the trees so now it like it was during battle of Nashville. Vistors center is small.

So you've been to Franklin and Stones River, and you think you've been to all the middle TN Civil War sites? Well, add Fort Negley to your list. There are several interesting films in the visitor center, and a very friendly staff to answer your questions. The fort was largely dismantled and overgrown after the war. The visible ruins of... My husband and self enjoyed this stop. It was free to walk around the fort and to see where they placed it where you can see everything was pretty cool too.

I've been to a number of Civil War sites, and I would rank Fort Negley as average. It is definitely not in the same category as Shiloh or some of the other more famous sites.

Great place to hike and learn about history. The visitor center guide was really friendly and he offered to start a video about the history of Nashville and Fort Negley. Awesome view of Nashville from the top of the fort.

Five moon visit to the only left yesterday. Quick 10 minute visit. Free parking. There are little plaques with info set up to appreciate some of the history.

Go here, bring the kids and ask about the scavenger hunt sheets. This is awesome for kids (especially in the midst of a long road trip). There is a fair amount of walking but the view is incredible and the history is fascinating.

This was a huge project for the time, and the signs are very complete. The area itself has the original stonework, but all the wooden structures are gone. Apparently the area was in disrepair for a longish period, but the reconstruction (paths and signs, original stonework) are the attraction.

Nashville is doing right by preserving and Fort Negley. Easy walking on well maintained trail. The shortest route to the single entrance to the actual fortifications is to go clockwise from the entrance, although there are several interesting signs along the counterclockwise route.
