Since opening in 2001, the Frist Center for Visual Arts has hosted a spectacular array of art from around the world. Not only an important cultural focal point for the city of Nashville, it is also a significant architectural structure, occupying one of Nashville’s great historic landmarks, the former main post office. Constructed from 1933 to 1934 under the direction of the local architectural firm of Marr & Holman, it displays both of the most distinctive architectural styles of the period: Classicism and Art Deco.

In January we made our first visit to the Frist to see the Samurai exhibit and others. We were struck by the beautiful old building and the condition of it. Entering from the parking area is actually entering from the rear and you enter through an exhibit hallway. This was nice, you get to see some art before you start.... More

On our full day visit to Nashville, we were greeted during our visit downtown with lite rain, so we spend a delightful 1 1/2 hours in the Frist Center. The main floor houses a key exhibit- during our visit it was on the Samauri. We picked up a wonderful app (free) that provided interesting commentary on many of the exhibits.... More

It was very cold outside for nashville so we spent an hour inside looking at the hallway gallery of art done by students in various mediums.

Located in the old Nashville Post Office, the Frist Museum is a wonderful museum that brings in superb exhibits and has a great art collection of its own. I love museums and have visited many and I would rate The Frist very high. When in Nashville it's a must visit. The gift shop offers a good selection of merchandise and... More

The Frist Center is located in what was once Nashville's historic downtown U.S. Post Office building. Be aware that The Frist is a non-collecting museum, that is they have no permanent exhibition of art. You should look on their website or in local media to see what is available for viewing. We visited the Center specifically to see an exhibit... More

They have up to 5 rotating galleries. They also have $6 monster pours of wine in their cafe. I've seen contemporary, modern, impressionist, classical, multi-media, sculpture, fashion, photography and even design installations. I've seen Degas, Monet, Warhol amongst other "masters" there over time.

AN old post office turned into an art museum. beautiful architectural details, small museum but entertaining and worth the visit, with cafe on site. Our kids loved the section designed for them- print making, computer design, building blocks table. Their shows change frequently. It wasn't crowded, feels spacious, clean. Great gift shop.
