Took this route as a scenic drive to Townsend. We were heading there for the Cades Cove area of the Great Smoky Mountains national park. It is a nice drive!!

pull offs both sides of road great place to view sunrise or sunsets fall colors are always good watch for bikes on road lots of them on weekends

this is one of my favorite roads in the US, great views, low traffic, no boy racers, nice trails, cant be beat. I hope they finish the next stretch some day

Lots of motels close in Townsend and about a half hour drive in either direction to Maysville or Pigeon Forge/ Gatlinburg. I don't know exactly what amenities you want but tripadvisor would be good place to start checking... More
