Nice park off the beaten path

We stopped at this park as we camped across Texas. Really enjoyed the fact that it was out of the way and secluded. We stayed at an electric site at the back end of the park and had the place to ourselves. Very quiet and enjoyable. The town of Colorado City is small with a lot of charm - there... More

We needed a place to stay along I-20 from North Texas to New Mexico and this was a very nice place to stay. October is the off season and the park was very quiet, we got a spot right on the lake. There is considerable cactus and brush along the edge, so you don't wander down to the lake but... More

We took our toddlers here twice. I would not pay for a day pass. It is really only worth it if you want to camp as there wasn't that much to too or see. There was a burn ban, but most people were hacking off pieces of trees and burning anyways, which I found disappointing. But there was a lot... More

We spent one night here on our way out of Texas. On a Tuesday, we had the whole park to ourselves. There are no trees for shade but the picnic tables are covered. The sites are level and you have an open sky for satellite. The fun thing about this park is the amount of wildlife. We had quail and... More

Just as most Texas state parks, it is well maintained. The campsites were nice and large. It is in near west Texas, so tress and shade is a little sparse. Campsites are not near the lake, but some have a "view". I dinged one star due to location - in the middle of nowhere. We were just passing thru on... More

At 4 bucks a person we were going to drive through to check it out, but with 4 people we weren't going to spend 16 bucks just to drive through and look around while we were killing time one day... sorry, but that isn't happening.

I have stayed twice at the park, only in the Cabin area. On both visits, our family was the only one staying in a cabin, and I could count the number of other visitors (in the camping area) that I saw on one hand. Very isolated feeling, but that is something I like about it. Beautiful skies at night. The... More

This is a neat little state park that hasn't received a lot of attention. I like to go there to do hikes, cookouts, or just relax. it's a great way to get away from people and enjoy a day.

Nice park but facilities need an upgrade, mainly the bathrooms & perhaps add some fun family activities to draw in more people. Maybe 1/2 the sites rented over the July 4th holiday weekend, possibly due to low lake water level or the 105 degree heat wave. Fire ants took over our camper & bed during the 3rd night so we... The park is situated on a lake built to support a power plant, Unfortunately, the power plant shut down several years ago and the lake is no longer maintained as a constant level lake. It was down to about 20% of its capacity so all the water-front structures like docks and fishing piers were sitting on the dry bottom of... More
