While waiting for delayed ship we walked the Strand and saw some cool stuff. People in my group bought trinkets to clothes. My friends got some really cute outfits.

Be sure to take the time to visit the Ice Cream and Candy shoppe on the west end of the strand! The Railroad museum is a must see for the whole Family. Shopping, and nice eating establishments along both sides of the street and the wharf where the Elissa is moored, a floating museum on an old restored sailing ship.... More

A great historic street in the heart of Galveston where shopping abounds and many annual events/concerts are held

Fun tourist spot. There are lots of shops and restaurants. This port town is a nice stop prior to a cruise too.

Worth a stroll - but certainly not as interesting as it used to be. Lots of typical touristy souvenir shops mixed in with some clothing and antique shops and a few eateries as well.

Great place to go if you like to walk, window shop and find a different venue to eat at. Most shops are a little pricey, and geared for the tourists. You will find some good to really fine eateries. Watch the prices.

Maybe in the busy season this area is more vibrant but in January it was kind of dingy and pretty much desolate. A lot more work should be done to make this street more attractive and feel safer. Too many trash stores. The high point though was the confectionary.

I thought that downtown was really cute, the Strand included. I also thought it was overrated. The streets were packed with people coming from cruise ships. The prices seemed a bit high at the local businesses. I would recommend if you just want to go for a walk, but not if you don't like crowds!
