Bolivar Peninsula has two of the best places to eat in the area and the best way to get there if you don't have a boat is the ferry. Along the way you can take in the Seawolf Park on Pelican Island, the remains of the cement ship (I remember first seeing this as a kid in the early '60s),... More

If you love the ocean and the beach hop on the ferry for a fun, quick ride over to Boliver. Take a loaf of cheap bread and feed the seagulls. It's a fun trip!

What a beautiful way to view the Galveston Harbor! The Galveston-Port Bolivar ferry is the bridge between two segments of State Highway 87. South of IH-10, State Highway 87 is the only highway around Galveston Bay. The free ferry service provided by TxDOT is the only way motorists can cross the waterway between Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston Island. Free is... More

Once you get underway it is a nice 20 or so minute ride. I can't count the times I have ridden it in my lifetime so maybe I don't appreciate as much as a should. It does bring back a lot of good memories.

The Galveston Ferry operates between Galveston and Bolivar. If you don't want to drive a car across, it's an excellent hour round trip for the family. When approaching keep right, park your car and walk on board one of the four Texas operated vessels. You will be instructed to climb stairs to the second level observation deck. Once underway, you...
