The railroad museum is a must see attraction, especially if you love trains as much as my son does! There is stories of the hurricanes in here and you can actually tour the yard in the back that has dozens of train cars. Really historic part of the strand with tons of documentaries on the railroad and the town.

The city of Houston and Galveston back in 1990 had old fashion renovated train cars on the antique train take visitors back and forth for a day of adventure. We ended up in the Railroad museum, once we embarked for a few hours of Galveston shopping and dining. The museum had sculptures of people from the 1920's standing around, push... More

We rarely try railroad museums, since hubby works UP. So glad we took the time for this one. 5 rails with many cars from all eras you could enter, as well as a very large dining collection and a fantastic model train city. Only $10/pp, with an option for audio tours. Friendly and still informed staff. Definitely recommend!

What a cool place! You can learn a whole lot about the history of railroads. Very nicely done. I especially like the 'ghost people' in the lobby of the station. Those are really neat! You can climb on a lot of railroad cars, including a diner, a sleeper, and a caboose. Some are under construction but some are totally refurbished.... More

I've been to rail museums that have more rolling stock or better displays, but the Galveston Island Railroad Museum and Terminal is an alright way to spend a couple hours with a kids who is obsessed with trains. My two-year-old's face light up when he could climb into the cab of an old diesel locomotive and pull levels/turn wheels. That... More

Step back in time as you walk through the doors of the train station from yesteryear. You will be greeted by ghosts of travelers past. Literally. There is much to do, see and learn here. From authentic train cars that you may board and explore - including engines, cabooses, sleeper and dining cars, even a US post office car! -... More

This is a fun place to tour around and would be good for families and anyone who has an interest in history and trains. The most favorite train for me was the mail train, in interesting insight into past history and former ways of communicating. Well worth the dollars.

Amazing place, so much to see and do! How people travelled in those golden years is amazing, such small quarters, how to maximize living space in such small confines! We are really spoilt today! Took the short train ride, it's a blast.
