When compared to Fine Art Museums of other cities, Houston is quite different. When I went on a free Thursday I saw very little "fine art" in the classic sense, however I did see some of the most amazing ancient to not-so-ancient pieces from all over the world. Right now (Feb 2017) they have a fantastic Muslim Art exhibition that... More

I highly suggest you visit MFAH. It's a super fun place with amazing art, AND they hold weekly awesome socials with booze and art and music! So fun.

One of the finest collections of modern art in the USA ...well worth the visit . If doing this, then you must also take in the Menil Collection, the Museum of Contemporary Art, all within walking distance of one another, & a short ride away the Station Museum of Contemporary Art , (off Alabama street & ) in the heart... The Museum of Fine Arts continues to be a world-class fine art venue. The Degas exhibit, curated to show the many forms of Degas' art over his lifetime, gathered from all over the world, was first-rate. I returned twice and each time was deeply impressed by the effort the Museum took to put this show together. We have an exceptional... More

My wife and I visit the museum at least once a month. We have been members for the last five years and always look forward to seeing the new exhibits or visiting the permanent collections. Saturday mornings are our favorite time as traffic is light and there is free surface parking right across from the museums buildings.

Very nice exhibit covering Degas and his transition from classical to impressionist painting. We rented the ear phones and was definitely worth the price, since the information really helped to understand his vision. We are long time members and always look forward to their special exhibits throughout the year.
