Purrrrrfect for date night.

For those who remember Marfreless as the "cool" place to go back in the 70s, there's good news & there's bad news. The good news is that discreet location with no indication of what's behind the unmarked door is still there and with some classy upgrades. For all you new nocturnal explorers this is where you'll find a quiet, dark... More

The blue door and the secret knock (I was tricked). Loved the decor, the paint on the walls, the lighting or lack of it. It will make the felines just want to cuddle right up to you. Let me not forget to mention the music. I was born in the wrong era. I knew all the songs and they all... More

This is a great bar to come and get the feel of the 50's and 60's cocktail bar. It is dark inside and there are a lot of couples there looking for some good one-on-one time. But overall, the atmosphere is great and the cocktails they mix are the best. Prices are a little high, but still worth the visit.

Marfreless is a rather darksome highly atmospheric upscale cocktail bar behind an unmarked door on 2600 Peden street, close to River Oaks. The cocktails are quite good and have suggestive names .... The Sauvignon blanc on open bottle was delicious.

As stated by the Houston Bucket list, this dimly lit bar it perfect to have a romantic date. It has private booths upstairs to get cozy with a date. They also have larger booths and tables for groups. The drinks are a bit pricy but it is worth it. The atmosphere is cozy. The bartenders are attentive at the bar.

I liked that it was tucked away, dark and has a fun past, but that wasn't enough to make up for the atrocious martini they served me. It was one of the worst I have ever had - it tied with a martini I had a chain restaurant for children. The drink consisted of small and sad olives, and was... More

This was my first visit since the closing and re-opening. I have been a patron since 1981. No more classical music and great art work. Now you get loud music and bare walls. The waitress was asked to turn down the music with negative results. Sadly, Marfreless does not exist in its original format.

There is no sign out front and the door is hidden behind a beuilding and underneath a stairway. So, finding it for the first time may be a little tricky. However, its well worth the hunt. Inside its very dark and not very spacious. However, the selection at the bar is nice and the bartenders and waitresses are very polite.... More
