Saw this guy on the road on the way to Huntsville State Park

And of course was curious who/what this guy is. After camping, a friend and I decided to stop in with our pups. How exciting, many of us had our pups, and all were so well behaved... read more

I don't think I would add this to any trip lists unless I was in the area with some free time. We stopped here back in the late 1990's while we were camping in Huntsville. Since then I've driven by it dozens of times as I go up and down I-45. The statue is 67 feet tall and sits on... More

On the north side I-45 Interstate just before entering Huntsville, TX is this huge statue of Sam Houston (guess maybe 100' tall) accompanied by a small visitors center and gift shop. There is also a nice little park between the visitors center and the statue where you can rest under tree cover. Impressive statue carved all in white stone. Nice... More

We have driven past this statue so many times and each time we say "we need to stop here sometime." Well, we finally did! It was even more awesome up close. We were there after hours, so we were not able to go into the visitor center or gift shop, but we were so happy we could still walk around.

Passed it at night & it about scared me to death all lit up!! Stopped on way back through a couple of days later. It's tradition from what I understand to have your picture taken the statue so of course, we did! It's a good place to stop, use the restroom & visit for a quick minute to learn more... More

Yes, you can see this from the freeway, but you need to get off the road and walk up to this statue. You cannot get the full awe of how tall this statue of Sam Houston is unless you are standing right next to it. It's a short walk from the tiny museum that tells how the statue cam about.... More

Gotta take your photo with the big guy! You'll be at the Visitors Center for Huntsville so pick up some ideas of things to see nearby. I would suggest the Texas Prison Museum and H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum personally.

We have always check this out since i was a kid. Now that i have kid of my own i like to stop and show him the statue its an iconic thing for the area. If you hapoen to drive by on one of the few times it freezes the ice sickles hang from it and look pretty neat.
