Join one of Wales' top Mine Explorers on an exploration of a virtually untouched abandoned Welsh Slate Mine. First worked in 1836 and abandoned by the miners in the early 1970s, more than 130 years of mining history is captured inside waiting to be discovered. It's as if the mine has just closed. Machinery, tools, even the candles and discarded cigarette packets are still in place as the miners left them. Corris Mine Explorers gives you the opportunity to visit these abandoned slate mine workings, to step into the tough working lives of the miners and of past generations. 3 trips to choose from: 1 hour Taster, 2 hour Mine Explorer and a Half Day Mine Expedition. Advance Booking Essential.

Corris Mine Explorers trips start from the Corris Craft Centre, a finalist in the National Tourism Awards 2015 for Best Day Out!

Terrific! What else can we say that hasn't been said already by others! A genuine and authentic experience with an excellent and very knowledgable guide giving a real view of working in the mine. Bring or borrow wellies and dress warm as this is real and is worth the money and experience. Well done 'Moley' for the tour and thank... More

It was a real privilege being able to find out more about the workings and history of the Slate mines and miners. Mark had a wealth of information which he tailored to our interests and questions. It was a fascinating glimpse into social history which moulded the local area. Wellies are provided along with torches and safety ropes, wear warm... More

We spent a week in Wales and took the Corris mine tour. this is not your ordinary tourist outing. we were outfitted with miners helmets with heavy battery packs, wellington boots and a safety belt . all of this soon became necessary. once we entered the mine the only light was what our lights provided. Mark, the guide was excellent.... More

Today we ventured into the mines with 'moley' not being one for dark small confined spaces I was quite reserved but honestly hand on heart this was one of the most amazing days out we have had, give out of five doesn't do it justice! Moley was great and added to the experience even more so, my daughter (10) and... More

We had a great time with Mark, exploring the mine. Mark was very informative and entertaining! I also recommend a lovely coffee shop in Corris village (Andy and Adams) for a warming cup of tea afterwards.

We went for a 4 hour tour underground for part of a friend's stag weekend. Mark, the guide, is extremely knowledgeable and was able to give us a lot of interesting details about the caverns that he showed us around. Wear wellies!

Thank you for your fabulous review, we are really pleased that you and the stag party had such a great time. Yes, wellies are a definite, but if you don't have your own, we can lend you a pair. We recommend that you bring 2 pairs of thick socks too. Thank you again. More

My son and my partner loved this, im a pathetic claustrophobic so it was just them two. It says book online and maybe this is advisable, however we just passed on the off chance and found that they had places for the mine at 1pm for an hrs tour ....this was £21 in total. They were well over an hour... More

Mum and three teenagers were on the two hour mine explorers (which Mark stretched to 2 and a half so we could go up to the surface the interesting way!) We all learnt so much about the mine, its workers and the geology of the rocks. Thank you Mark for sharing your encyclopaedic knowledge of the mines in such an... More
