The converted jail to museum was very interesting. The architecture of the jail is amazing, looking like a castle emerging from the landscape. The actual cells are still available for viewing. They appear to me to have been a really good deterrent to crime. The jail is on the upper floors and this area is not handicap accessible. If you... More

It was both exciting and eerie touring the old cells, reading the old graffiti and feeling as if the ghosts of past prisoners were watching!!!!

The jail operated until rather recently. Have the staff explain how it was laid out when the jailer's family lived downstairs. Several rooms contain artifacts that provide insight into life in central Texas cattle country during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Small admission charge. Knowledgeable staff. Good for older kids and adult. Worth an hour.

This is a historic court and jail for this part of Texas. The historical significance cannot be understated.

We had lunch at Black's and went on a walk around the square in Lockhart. We ended up at the jail, and spent the couple of bucks to take the tour. The nice lady gave us her speech, and we opened the screechie door to the jail upstairs. The horror. Interestingly, the best cell is in the "penthouse" at the... More

I took my grandson to see the "Jail Museum" a few years ago....He enjoyed the visit and we took a couple of pictures so he could share his experience with classmates. It was good visit that we both enjoyed.

I'm a architect lover. This was a great little stop. It's a museum but looked to be abandoned. Not sure if it was open or not. I did take photos from the outside.

The brick work is amazing. A must see if you are near. The downtown square is charming and be sure to see the library while you are there.

This old jailhouse was built at the turn of the century and is typical for the era. Solidly brick built with steel bars and cage cells. Not many windows, dark and claustrophobic sums it up. Being incarcerated here should be enough to keep most on the straight and narrow path. The hostess was a very nice and knowledgable lady. The... More
