This unique museum dedicated to the glider service during WWII is well worth your time while in Lubbock, TX. The Silent Wings Museum brings to life an important part of American history that everyone will enjoy. A quick tour that is tastefully done with a great atmosphere. Go see it and enjoy a beautiful West Texas view, to boot!

We saw a B17 flying around during our last day in Lubbock. When we were leaving town we could see the plane sitting at the airport / Silent Wings airport area. We jumped off the highway to investigate. They were offering tours of the plane ($10?) I can't really remember. It was nice to hear the stories & information about... More

Spent an hour going through this important military museum. I had heard of gliders being used in WWII but learned so much here where pilots trained. Watch the video first and then enjoy the displays, arms, and planes. A very well put together museum.

The museum is very complete re WWII gliders. It's here on the (remote) Llano Estacado because the majority of WWII glider pilots were trained here. First-class displays, including several partial gliders and one whole one. (There is also a reconstituted glider and in St. Marie L'Eglise in Normany). Take exit 9 off I-27, and it's within view. The Google map... More

Nice little place. I enjoy history and learned some facts I'd never heard before. I recommend spending about two hours going through this museum where you can see the different displays and models relating to aviation on a self-guided tour. Watch the video about gliders and the dangerous jobs they performed in the war. The fact that they could tow... More

The Silent Wings Museum is a must see attraction for aviation or history buffs visiting Lubbock. Not only does the museum offer several glider aircraft on display, it also has displays covering various other World War II topics. A very well kept and maintained museum dedicated to a relatively unknown aspect of America's past military operations.

We had the opportunity to have as a guest speaker a POW from WWII for our annual company dinner. With the museum as our setting , we had a meal catered in the hanger with tables surrounded by gliders and displays from the war. Guests toured the rest of the museum prior to dinner and everyone thought it was a... More
