We took a long walk through the gardens, woods, and grounds of Colonsay House, using the map provided in the café, and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and flowing stream surrounded by many trees and ferns. We saw some roses and hydrangeas, but unfortunately for us the rhododendrons--one of the main selling points of the gardens--were not in bloom. Wrong season.... More

Ancient trees, tropical plants, hydrangeas, kitchen gardens and a lovely stream with ferns and moss. Lovely quiet spots to sit and stare, lots of birds and butterflies.

Nice garden with a stream flowing middle of it. There is also a vegetable garden and some roses. I especially loved a woodland garden, it is such a peaceful and lovely place to walk on! Huge trees on the main garden are wonderful!

On a lovely day we visited the gardens and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our grandchildren had a great time playing on the lawns while we looked at all the varied plants and trees.

We had a i page guide but would have appreciated a much more detailed guide as there are so many interesting species. Maybe one was available. we had limited time but enoyed home made scones in the cafe. Amazing tree and waiting to be climbed.

Enjoyed strolling around the gardens, and then sharing an afternoon tea and home cooked scones and cake on the tea room terrace.

I visited this garden and was escorted by the owner. As she says there is a limit to what a couple of gardeners can achieve. There used to be seven gardeners and I am sure the place was a treat to see however now there is a long way to go though an individual who is keen on specific species... More

The gardens have obviously seen much better days and do not compare well with other large gardens that I have visited. However, the gardens have a certain charm and the tea room does excellent home baking.

Beautiful, verdant, old rustic gardens in the grounds of Colonsay House. Extensive range of plants. A sheltered "oasis" of green on a remote Scottish Island. The cafe/teashop is also excellent (the best on the Island). Check opening times before visiting as they're not open every day.
