There was plenty of seating available both inside and outside for a comfortable trip of about 2 1/2 hours. Restrooms and snack bar are available. The captain tries to find and point out as much wildlife as he can. We made three brief stops to observe and photograph close whooping cranes. I recommend this trip for birders and nature lovers.

We were here for the Whooping Crane Festival. The first thing we did was the boat tour. We had to travel on the boat for a good hour to hour and a half before we saw any cranes. The tour guide was excellent and obviously knew the area. He had loads of information however, we could only hear very little... More

600 Whooping Cranes in the world and many flock to south Texas, Port Aransas, to spend their winter making them life birders for most birders. They can be seen October through February. Taking the Whooping Crane Boat tour we viewed over 20. The Wharf Cat was a comfortable fishing vessel used for this tour. It was well equipped with a... More

We saw 39 Whooping Cranes as well as many other critters including 1 dolphin. The day was cold, no heat inside boat. Narration excellent when we could hear it over the noisy motor and terrible speakers. We tried standing under garbled speaker or next to narrator. Binoculars and a super duper camera helpful. The boat was able to get fairly... More

We enjoyed our boat trip over Thanksgiving break. We saw about 8 pairs of whooping Crains plus a lot of other birds and dolphins. Very few people were on boat so we felt like we had the top deck to ourselves. Advice: take your own binoculars if you own them, bring a windbreaker if you like being on top deck... More

Our Whooping Crane Tour on the Skimmer with Captain Tommy could not have been better! We especially were happy with the owners for working with us when we had to cancel our original tour due to a family illness. Yvette scheduled and rescheduled our tour until we actually booked a date. It was late in the season and we weren’t... More

Captain Jay and Debbie did an outstanding job on our tour. Captain Jay is very knowledgeable about area wildlife and in particular Whooping Cranes. He mixes humor with facts and welcomes questions of all kinds. My husband, me and my 79 year old mom took the 7:30 AM tour and couldn't have been more pleased. Captain Jay stopped the boat... More

We took the whooping crane boat tour and it was magnificent. The captain seems to know every bird species and variations thereof. We got to see a Whooper family up close plus learned to identify several other bird species. On the return trip, the captain picked up several pods of dolphins and convinced them to 'surf' in the boats wake.... More

Since 2006, we have tried them all, from this big boat all the way down to a small charter that was little more than a glorified ski boat. Of the public tours, I would rate this second, behind the Skimmer, in ability to get you close and provide a good photography platform (assuming there are birds to get close to...the... More

Captain was well versed in the cranes and other birds in the area. Was able to get us up close to the cranes as well as a number of other birds. The boat was set up well for viewing, the tour length perfect. Bring binoculars and a warm jacket. Warm coffee on board and a check list of local birds.... More
