This place was just ok. Saw one unusual bird and a couple of spiders. Otherwise just a short walk around the visitors center. Most of the place was closed due to hunting. So check before you go to see if it's worth taking the trip. The road in was AWFUL!!! Had I known how little was there I would not... More

My wife and I toured the wildlife refuge during October 2016. We had hoped to see a large number of migrating birds, but we were a month too early, as large numbers come through in November. However, we enjoyed the visit. For the first time in 60 years, I saw multiple Road Runners (of disney cartoon fame). They are bigger... More

When we went there was no tram to take so we walked around parts of the park. It looks like you used to be able to drive around but now the roads are closed. There are still the Speed limit signs up but what would be handy is if there were mileage markers up so you could tell how far... More

We took the tour on the tram and stopped a few times to walk around and see wildlife and birds close-up. Our guide was amazing and knew the birds even from a distance. She also had answers to most of our questions.

We only got to spend a couple of hours at Laguna Atascosa NWR. Since the auto drive was closed (sadly) we walked the trails near the visitor center. The staff was so helpful and friendly. We got to see valley specialities like Green Jay, Altamira Oriole and Plain Chachalaca. We were especially impressed with the numerous fence posts lining both... More

Yes people, the roads aren't great, but this park is worth a few bumps. The effort will score you some amazing bird sightings, give you the opportunity to enjoy the hiking and biking trails, and give you a chance to take advantage of a great 3 hour tram ride. Special Tram Rider Info: This tram traverses all the parks eco-systems... More

My wife and I had come to Laguna Atacosta in January '15 and enjoyed it, though even then we remembered that the road(s) leading to the center were atrocious. I'm a country boy, having grown up on a farm, so to put it in context, I don't demand perfection. But I have seen ABANDONED roads in better shape than "Buena... More

A great place to see birds and for bicycling. I gave 4/5 because the access road needs maintenance as well as the facilities. However, what nature offers is just gorgeous...

A must see for the Coastal Texas visitors. Take the Tram tour to get a real feel for the vastness and inhospitable nature of this wonderful place. And view the many forms of wildlife that call it home.

Nature at its best. Lots of birdwatching opportunities. Quiet not crowded. Lots of trails to hike/walk. Nature shuttle available to get a glimpse at the ocelots, just check schedule. Kids enjoyed the birds and flowers(Lots of them). Dont miss Osprey overlook.
